I have a Driving licence in the format of the Photo-ID credit card and the bit of paper that goes with it.
I can't seem to lay my hands on the piece of paper but I do have the Photo-ID card. What I need to know is do I need both documents in order to hire a car abroad?
I'm off to Italy in a couple of days time.
Unless you're going on your own, you could rent the car in someone else's name (gf, wife, friend etc) but still drive it. Or just tell the guy at the counter that you lost the paper on the plane, Italians are generally very helpful and laid back
Personally ONLY ever been asked for the paper bit in the UK. Hired cars in Switzerland,France,Germany and Austria. Continental licences are credit card usually. No crappy big A4 sheet. Usually with Hertz. Police in Germany only need the Credit card bit as well.
