Mate you have made a serious error!

Famagusta is a deserted City under control of the Turkish Military and UN!
Its littered with land mines.

By the way, when you buy in Northern Cyprus, you DO NOT legally own the property or any land. They belong to the the Greek Cypriot people that were kicked out of the houses and off the land during the invasion.

With this new reconciliation between the 2 sides, houses and land will eventually be given back to their rightful owners in the not too distant future.

The buying of houses and land( inc. that to be built on) by foreigners in Northern Cyprus is considered illegal by the UN, EU and Republic of Cyprus.
Legal proceedings can be brought against you by the rightful owners.

You need to get out of this FAST!
You are heading for a whole world of trouble!

I dont mean to put a downer on the whole thing mate.

I just wouldnt want somebody to make a grave error like this.
The British Govt. has tried to stop this illegal sale of Property and Land in the non-recognised and illegal Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

You maybe dont realise it mate, but you are breaking the law.
Suprised you havent heard about all the media attention this issue has gathered over the last few years.
There are hundreds of Brits that have been caught out by this, lost everything, and now face legal proceedings.
Hence why land and property is so cheap there.

Its also a sh*t hole up there!

Found this on the british high comission webpage

Before purchasing property anywhere in Cyprus you are strongly advised to seek independent qualified legal advice.

Property issues are closely linked to the political situation (see Cyprus Country Profile). There are a number of potential practical, financial and legal implications, particularly for those considering buying property in the north – these relate to the non-recognition of the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”, the possibility of a future political settlement in Cyprus, and claims to ownership from people displaced in 1974. There is also a risk that purchasers would face legal proceedings in the courts of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as attempts to enforce judgements from the courts of the Republic of Cyprus elsewhere in the EU, including the UK. Separately, there are specific rules for foreigners purchasing property in the north and you should ensure you

I remember reading all about this and seeing the uk newspaper clippings when I was at the lookout tower over there a few months ago. There are lots of brits that have lost one hell of alot of money to this scam

Funny...I went to the Silver Springs Hotel in Paralimni a few years ago. OK, you had to make sure you took the right road back to the hotel, otherwise you had to turn round and go back, but military enclave? Nah, not unless it's changed in recent times.

Paralimni is fine although within the Famagusta administrative area it is a little way inland at the south eastern end of the Greek part of the island. Check out the marks and spencer store if its still there - its about the size of your living room!

As has already been mentioned, the 'ghost city' of Famagusta is OOB and has been since the mid-1970's. If your property was on the Turkish occupied side of the green line - you'd need to be back pedalling pretty damn quickly.

From memory there is a huge domestic waste disposal / landfill site near paralimni - in 32 Deg C of cypriot heat the stink from that site was one of the most unpleasant things I have ever experienced.

From my experiences on the island there is not a lot of liking for the Brits there. I have had a couple of hostile experiences with cypriots while on the island. One of those was my fault two others were completely random. Many Cypriots remain resentful towards the brits for thier role in the Turkish invasion. They are tolerated as tourists and a source of revenue, but setting up home there may not be a wise move.

It used to be the case that the UK was not well serviced with flights to and from Cyprus during winter - that may have changed now, or may not be an issue for you.

Good luck with the proprty deal.

I was trying to be diplomatic, but yeah - it was more accurately the inactivity of the British Government at the time that caused resentment.

Some nice scoobies round nicosia though, and burgers from "big boy" were pretty damn good! Anyhow - slightly off topic.
