Its that time again, our annual charity rally around Europe in the "Scumball 3000", rebranded in 2008 as "Scumrun" www.scumrun.com is just round the corner. As usual, we're on the scrounge for sponsorship again
Myself and my navigator Davespice have been taking part in this event for the last few years. Here's a few pics of the cars we've been using over the years.
Also, here is a short video which was produced for rapture television is on Youtube and it can be found here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=dRg_TqpEZrg
As you can see, the cars over the years have gotten more and more outlandish, but this year we have gone all out and secured an ex police Volvo 850 T5 with a full years MOT for 500 pounds exactly, here it is!
Last year we went for a Back to the Future theme and managed to secure "Best Dressed Scum" at the end of the rally. This year, We are going for the Ghostbuster and are currently in the process of transforming the car into Ecto 1!
Similar to the gumball rally, it is limited by one of two rules, firstly the cars must not cost more than 500 pounds and you must turn up on the startline with no less than 500 pounds in sponsorship money for the rally's nominated charity. In previous years, we have raised over 2000 pounds for the likes of the Sussex Snowdrop trust, Winston's Wish and Whizzkidz and we are hoping to boost that even further for this years charity, Chase http://www.chasecare.org.uk/
We have managed to do this by selling advertising space on the car for each year. Unfortunately, what with the recession and all that, we're having trouble finding sponsors
We have set up a page on Justgiving - Astraboy, Davespice and the ECTO 1! to provide a secure online method of donating. Like I said, its scrounge time, so anything you can donate would mean we would be eternally grateful and if you have one and fancy it, your logo goes on the car, absolutely no questions asked. If you donate, it goes on!
Well I stop boring you now, anything you can spare would go a long, long way!
Cheers,
astraboy.

How muxh would I have to pay to get 'f**k the police' on the car or 'all border control and customs people are gaylords' or how about 'I have a kilo of chico up my arse and stupid customs will never find it'

We usually have a funny slogan underneath the rear of the back numberplate, but we've not got as far as deciding on one for this year.
for 20 quid any of the above can be on there old chap
Astraboy.
P.S. Cookstar, always a pleasure mate, thanks
Yes mate, the rear quarter has already gone, behind the front wheels and the middle of the door is reserved for the rally logos, but apart from that its wherever you want it
astraboy.
Im not going this year Rhod, so I'll chip in a little. £500? Is that honest? A lot of last years cars plainly cost more than that: my Skoda cost £300 and the year before the Porsche cost £475.
Yep, 100% honest. all my cars came under the £500 limit. This one was right on the nose and I took a big risk buying it without the MOT, but it turned out to be the right one.
Best thing is its FAST mate. Something that big shouldnt go that quickly! Imagine if Noah turbocharged The Ark and you'll see what I mean
Its a pity you're not going, but a donation would be fantastic, thank you very much indeed
astraboy.
T5's used to be the bargain of the century mid last year, but for some reason prices seem to have firmed up a bit on them Too many scumballer's buying them
Hey astraboy, how do you find sponsors actually? We haven't got a single one so far
Id suggest looking for small donations; as opposed to looking for larger conventional sponsors. You need to start with a 'Just Giving' page similar to astraboy's above.
As I say; youre looking at it the wrong way. In theory you need Eds permission to have sponsors stickers on the car; though on our first event we turned up covered in Big Pockets and Lateral Performance stickers. Looking for sponsorship as found in motorsport is a mistake: think sponsorship as in 'sponsored walk', with anything else being an unexpected bonus.
