Had an Apache fly over whilst out with the dog at lunch and it sounded superb Not seen one flying before as there are no airbases down here. Don't even get fast jets flying over down here.
Where are the apaches based in the UK? Wondering if it must be on its way to Manston for a stop over on its way to somewhere else. Was just one on its own too hence assuming its for a display somewhere.
Ah only 100 miles away then. I would have thought it should have been out in Afghanistan as we don't have many of them. In fact just googled it and there are 67 UK apaches and only 8 are in Afghanistan! That's outrageous.
Duxford is about 70 or so miles from me so must be taking the scenic route home, I know I would if I was flying one of those i'd never want to put it down!
Actually just read:
Quote:
Current deployment plans for the 67 Apaches centre around 9 Regiment at Dishforth, North Yorkshire, plus 3 and 4 Regiments at Wattisham, Suffolk. Each of these Regiments parents a pair of Apache Squadrons, each of 8 aircraft, operating alongside Lynx scout helicopters. The remaining aircraft will be based at Middle Wallop, Hampshire for training, Boscombe Down, Wiltshire for testing, and held in reserve at Shawbury, Shropshire.
so based in several places across England.
