Default Anyone into RC cars?

Me and a couple of mates fancy getting some for a laugh. Some jumps, friendly racing and general larking about.

Been looking at HPI Trophy Buggy. Any advice or suggestions?

Traxxas

Worth every penny, and compared to some friends running HPI stuff, the Traxxas cars/buggies/trucks spent more time running compared the the HPI cars/buggies/trucks that seemed to be continually breaking down.

If I was going to start again, I would possibly consider battery over nitro though.

This is mine:

Traxxas REVO 3.3

Clocked at 41mph on grass

I would consider this if I was starting again

E-REVO - Brushless edition

Battery powered - 65mph+ Not cheap though and batteries aren't cheap either.

That looks like fun!

Why the change of heart over nitro vs battery?

You need to be prepared for a bit of messing about with nitro engines to get them running right and then just when you've got it running sweet, you pack it up. Next time you take it out, if the air temperature has changed by any real amount it can totally throw the tuning out and so the messing about with the mixture starts again.

It's something you get used to and if you like the tuning side then it's all part of it and can add to the enjoyment. Some get fed up with it though and just wish they could switch it on and run it.

Be prepared for the maintenance of it too. Cleaning it and oiling/greasing it after each use to maintain it to it's best. This will apply to both types of engine powered vehicles though really.

Be prepared for little things to break too. It's all part of it once you start using them properly, especially off road. Most parts are fairly cheap though and ebay has plenty.

Don't let it put you off though, just be prepared for what's involved.

Not too up on electric to be honest as everyone did the "man" thing that meant we all jumped in to nitro without weighing it all up!

The Traxxas Jato 3.3 is a great little nitro stadium truck though. A couple of my friends have them and they are so fast!

Traxxas Jato 3.3

Almost in budget!

Loads on youtube.

Just search for Traxxas Revo or Revo 3.3 or similar to see loads.

Here is a short official Traxxas vid.

Have a Tamiya Dark Impact Electric that got sidelines when we got the Schumacher Menace Nitro, good god its fast, apparently it can do 70 mph, rarely gets much through second gear, arse all squatted down, prow up accelerating like you would not beleive when running right, someties its just fast, other times it just seems to acheive ballistic speeds and it probably isnt even that fast these days !

Not sure, I've only really got any experience of owning Tamiya (from 10 years ago! ) and now Traxxas.

I was persuaded away from HPI to Traxxas but then my budget allowed it at the time.

HPI aren't a bad car by any means, I'm sure you will get loads of fun out of it.

Hyper 7 looks good.

Check out ebay for spares of any one you decide to buy before buying, it's handy to get an idea of how easily available spares are and the costs.

Trust me, you will need some at some point!

Unfortunately none of the Traxxas nitro vehicles quite fall within your budget.

Plenty of other quality makes out there though.

I'm sure someone with some more experience with buggies will come along with some suggestions

Another vid of the Revo

You can hear the gear changing on this one. Shows the reverse gear too. Which alot of nitro cars don't have.

The Traxxas has an electric starter too, rather than a pull cord!

YouTube - traxxas revo 3.3 top speed in garage

Sounds like an F1 car in a tunnel when the gear changes!

Think ive settled for the Hyper 7 as i wanted a 4WD rather than the 2WD of the Jato 3.3

Shame as i liked the idea on the Traxxas EZ start system, but guess i'll get over it lol

Now gotta find a good deal somewhere

boro. save a bit more dough and get a Revo. Both Fozzie and Tiny have them and believe me, after owning at least 15 nitro r/c cars, i still think these are amazing bits of kit !!!

good luck mate and have a fab xmas !!!!

ps: i used to have a GS Storm Pro, which was a strong hyper 7 rival, but think the larger scale truck type models are much more fun, and more akin to lifelike vehicles.

might save you a few quid in months to come

.... i'll shut up now !!!
