i think it might be fairly recent as a friend of my folks was on the phone a month or so ago moaning about where he was going to keep a spare set of wheels (they live in a flat near frankfurt).
i might be wrong

For those in the South East and London here is the latest forecast for Wednesday.
All I can say is that 2.0cm of rain as snow is a LOT of snow. Somewhere between 10-20cm depending on the air temperature and the snow density.

Just seen Harrogate on BBC news and it was bad. Then they said the snow heading south was going to be MUCH worse!!! Looks like I will be in London for a couple of days then!

I am back in the UK in a week so hope most of it clears - As I need to move the scoob from A to B.
My understanding is
Austria - legal requirement from Nov 1st - 5,000 euro fine.
Germany - Not a legal requiremet BUT you can get fined for not having them in cold conditions, fined for holding up traffic and fined for having no screen wash and holding up traffic and also invalidates insurence. So evryonee has them on.
Trout, I am bit thick when it comes to net stuff. Why does image shack show the picture you posted being so small. As that is the correct code-link for a forum pic. Not the code-link I posted?

True
Mind you, I nearly smashed the Mito into the wife's Civic between Xmas and New Year doing a handbrake turn in an otherwise empty car park, it just kept sliding for ever, stopped 6" short. I could just imagine the insurance claim form

I have still not managed to clear the entrance to work, about 6" here, I am the only lad in. the area who managed to make it in.
Going to finish clearing the entrance, and then go home, hopefully I will have done enough work to allow us to open tomorrow, got facking blisters on my hands due to extreme snow shoveling.
5 years trading and I have never been beaten by the winter before!

Travelling from London to York now. All my meetings in London were cancelled due to wimps saying it was a bit snowy!!
No where near as much snow in London as the scaremongering forecast - quite a bit outside though!!
On an electric train and the roof is being hit by huge lumps of ice being knocked off by the dolly!!!

It has reached us in Devon at last, about 2 inches last night but the council is doing a good job keeping the roads clear.
