I built this last weekend and then we had a few friends over for a party.

How big's your garden?

I'd thoroughly expect something like this in your garden, Phil..

Is the pond to keep fish seriously or rather for something to have as a water feature?

It sounds like you already have a pond though and like most things you post up you want to bling it. Is that right?

Waterfalls need to be done properly or they are great at leaking, not to mention freezing easily and then emptying the pond over the surrounding area.

If the pond is to be filtered you will need a separate return to pond other than that of the waterfall. This is because you'll need to turn off the waterfall in the winter to prevent it freezing.

already have the pond, that was with the house when we bought it, but over the last 18months we altered the ground around it to make it easier for us. Last Mrach we cleared and cleaned the pond out totally, so we know thats all sound.. about 25 fish in it small gold fish and some Orf.

we first looked like this when we got the house... scarey how much we cleared just in the garden to make it look like this!!

But the start of this March we looked like this..

last weekends I had a day with our gardener and cleared the lot so we can start from a clean sheet.

been to a quarry today to look at Bulwell Stone, thinking 4'x3' slabes being 3" thick. So might use some of those with the sandstone boulders we've already got.

It is pretty well a blank canvas then which lends itself to whatever you want and have to spend on it. The higher ground could have a nice waterfall built on it. A fountain and/or light show could be fitted. Make sure it is all heron proof to avoid losing your fish.

You could also filter it properly if you wish and then keep better fish (assuming it is deep enough).

Whatever work you do around it it is always best to move the fish into a holding tank to prevent spillage of toxic materials into the water.

Check out the Oase website for fancy bits.

The Oase Eco pumps are great for power and running costs. I run the 16000 on one of my ponds. What is the gallonage of your pond?

Without seeing or knowing the make and model of the filter but just looking at the pond I'd be inclined to think a 12000 litres per hour pump would be too powerful for your filter.

Turning the pond over every couple of hours is good but then only if the flow rate is compatible with the filter. Water rushing past the filter media isn't going to do anything. Then there is filter media and filter media...

Waterfall top left. Just a series of cut paving slabs with brick surround. I like it vey much and an added bonus is garden birds splashing about in waterfall.

we went to World of Water and we worked out we needed the 12000 to get enough pressure to pump up the incline of the ground, also want a fountain in the pond too, the pump will do both.

david... a close up of the fountain??

In that case if it was bought with fitting a waterfall in mind then great. Your filter will need to be as far away too then to decrease water pressure through it.

Been there, the worst bit was the wet protection coat which smelled of very old sweat. You can always piss through the fence anyway!

The eery bit is the big whirlpool further along the river.

I did a cleared low level flypast and a hicopleter had a hell of a shock when he saw us!

as i mentioned earlier we wanted to get rid of our pond (small kids etc)

so we emptied ours

and went from this (we only had a week as we needed to finish it for our twins 4th birthday party)

half empty (what a dirty smelly job)

to this

back breaking work (liner removed and filled with large boulders, then soil, then gravel)

to this -- a pirate play ship for the kids

hard work but worth it
