Hey guys - that's really helpful so thanks a lot. I had planned to ask my son just to get a ferry back to UK so I could take car to my usual garage over here but couldn't believe ferry costs - about £200 return and then there's the fuel from Holyhead to Sussex

Bear in mind you don't take cars to garages for MOT's here. It has to go to a Goverment testing station. Like the one's in England for commercial vehicles. All computerised so not sure if a car not registered in the UK would be accepted?? Maybe yours is UK reg ?

Thanks for that. Yep I got a bit of info on MOT testing stations. Car is UK registered btw. A NI MOT is recognised as valid in UK but as it's a different agency is not on the UK database so you can't tax on-line for example. I am wondering if it show up on a police check over here? dl

Its recognised but can a non-NI registered car be tested? Id always assumed not, other than on its chassis number - whichll keep you in touch with your local constables.....
