Gutted, big Beasties fan, 47, no age, should have had years more, but sadly, not to be.
People always put them firmly in the Hip Hop camp, which I guess they are but they were so much more, Jazz, Rock, whatever they did it, mixed styles and inflences from all over the place, they brought some much needed humour, self depracting at times to Hip Hop which can be a bit serious and scary, some imagination as well. I suppose it makes a change for a Hip Hop star to not die of lhigh velocity lead poisoning, again, innovating to the end.
I will always love their sound, that whiny, middle class, Jewish , nasal Q and A session, it just doesnt work on paper but when you hear it, it makes total, if weird sense, kind of sums up New York for me, rapid fire, surprising, eclectic and fantastic.
Sad news annie mac on radio 1 played Sabotage tonight in his memory, was in the car and had to turn it up one of my favourite tracks.
That is one of my all time favourites, not just of the Beastie Boys, but anything, ever.
It is about as far from Hip Hop as I can imagine though, it just seems like more rock to me that one apart from the scratch effect, it always put me in mind of Led Zep.
And that video, fantastic, imagine how much fun that must have been to make.

Me too, Ill Communication is one of my favourite albums and it's their mix of music that does it for me as i'm big into my heavy/thrash metal but into rap and hip hop too so they just mix so much stuff up it sounds superb.
I was shocked when I heard the news about Adam passing away because I thought that he could fight-off his cancer in 2010/11 before they released their latest record. Unfortunately this is not the case and my thoughts go out to his family and friends.
The Beastie Boys were and still are a major influence in my life. To express my condolences, I will put their records on repeat for the next couple of days/weeks. Damn, I wish I could see them playing a live show just once.
Cheers to the Beastie Boys, as their songs will live on forever!
