Default M5 or M3

I have a 59 plate 530d which I'm thinking of selling and I was looking at either a new shape M3 or an M5 around a 2008/9 plate.

I'm also thinking of selling my Impreza so want something that handles well and can tune to at least give me a little "oh my god performance"

Am I asking too much of both of my choices?

I've just sold my Impreza today actually...Looking to purchase the M3 myself, fancy the V10 from the M5, but I just worry about it going wrong....big engine...big bills?
Plus its a massive car, don't need it so big....its all about that V10 wail I guess.

So the 2door coupe ticks more boxes, nice burble still, all be it a V8.
just doing some research on M3cutters web site....take a look there mate, some good info.

I have the big car in the 530d and I added roll bars and bigger wheels and better tyres and for normal to moderate fast driving in corners I don't see a problem.

Since I added roll bars I have never once felt like the car was an issue in a bend.

oh of coarse the BMW's can handle the twisty bits fine.
What you think you want the V10 or V8?

M3 might be more of a change for you?
M5 similar to what you have now, as in body size...just with a mahossive engine lol.

Steve,
Don't bother with the M5. If you want a proper focused drivers car, I doubt you'll beat the M3. Get the auto v8. They're awesome.

I was a nats dinky away from buying one last year. The BMW dealer gave the keys for one, for an afternoon. It was wet weather and it had me smiling from ear to ear.

Shame it wouldn't fit in the garage when I tried to get it in.

Shaun, I was speaking to one of the lads on Friday who has the M3 and the only good point he could say was the engine, he complained about every other extra saying the Merc was the best.

I had a quick search on the AMG 63 and it seems to be more than I would spend considering I do about 2k miles a year.

Complained about what though?

They handle a drive so well... Great fun when you want to play IMO.

I think his complaint was more about the optional extras not being very good, as in sat nav and bluetooth being hopeless.

I just sold my M5...

They are a brutal piece of kit,and the EDC makes the car handle really well considering its size.

Downsides are heavy fuel bills and servicing costs. But you must experience the V10 once in your life.

I take it you also mean an E9x M3 ? I actually went to buy a 2007 car just before i bought the M5...
Engine great (but they can go bang) and the one i drove was a manual. It was a nice place to be,just not nearly special enough in any other department.
Prices are also in freefall at the moment, whereas if you buy an E60 M5 shrewdly you will do ok on residuals.. The majority of new price has now been shed on the E60.

I like the 4 door m3 v8, bit more of a all rounder and can be had for a bit less than the 2 door in some cases.
