Question E36 M3 Evo fuel consumption.

I still go to the local BMW Car Club meet - despite the fact I sold my M3 almost 18 months ago. Its a good chance to have a few beers and a chin wag. Anyway, a chap their runs a E36 m3 Evo Coupe. I think he struggles with his math's, as he swears that his average consumption of fuel is 30 miles per gallon. On a run down south, he can achieve 40mpg

I have never owned an E36 – but a chap at work used to have 328i Sport what did 23-29 mpg, so is the M power more economical ????????

I had a e36 M3 evo coupe about 5 years ago and depending on how it was driven 30mpg was easily achievable if my memory serves me right

Yes my mate has a 97 Evo and the trip comp regularly show 30+ mpg. I even reset it cause i didn't believe him and it still showed over 30mpg after a few tankfulls. His Evo is remapped too putting out 350bhp (proved on dastek's rolling road) and about 270lbs/ft. Lovely car and was the car of my dreams till i drove it. Something is not quite right driving such a linear power delivery after driving a high boost turbo for so long. Not disputing that it isn't a fast car though.

The Evo has a 'long' 6th gear as well IIRC meaning a relaxed motorway run should see good economy.

On motorway driving I'd often get 400 miles from a tank in my M3 Evo.

I believe that's around 33mpg.

Trip computers and actually measuring consumption can be totally different. Only a brim to brim check can give you any where near the real figure.
