This BMW is something special.
Kudos for BMW having the ***** to make this car. Light, powerful and faster than any unsuspecting member of the public would imagine. Awesome car and I would like one very much so. Could be a tad nicer to the eye though.
The 135i Coupe. 306hp. RWD. Light weight.

I find that unlikely to be honest - many manufacturers now use the Euro standard for kerb weights which is something like a full tank, driver and some luggage. I forget the exact figures, but it's something like that.

- Audi (plus a few others) measure unladen: just the car, but not in a driveable form
- BMW measure curb weight (c.75-100kgs more than unladen): Fluids + 90% full of fuel
- The standard measure is EU1 (75kgs more than curb): Curb + 68kg driver + 7kg cargo.

I think most 'old' cars are measured kerb weight aren't they? So the BMW weight is like for like and for an EU1 car I should subtract about 75kg to compare?
I see the 135i is 1560kg kerb(!) What's the light bit? The air inside?

So my fully loaded old Saab 9k Aero is 1450kg kerb so I'll hopefully not be beaten by one in straight line....
It IS scary how much these new cars weigh though.

I think it looks a bit top heavy.
Needs 2" out of the pillars to look like a coupe as opposed to the pope mobile.
Are they going to do a 3 door 135i and 135d..? The 135d would be novel on a motorway....

haha that's funny! You'll be the first to know It's running sweetly these days so parting would be hard.
Maybe I should get one of these new fangled BMW thingys - still waiting for them to get a bit quicker before I blow the 32k I have lying in the kitchen drawer for such events.

Its going to be lardy...rather than bicker about how BMW measure curb weight compared to other manufacturers, why not just compare the same engined cars in the current line up:
130i (3door) = 1450kg
330i = 1555kg
530SE = 1605kg
Monaro VXR 6.0 = 1688kg (sorry couldn't resist )
150kg between a 130 and a 530, thats the equivelent to two slender adult males....makes the 530 look light considering how much bigger it is.....Just apply the same logic to the 135 once the official weight is released....it will be heavier than a 130i anyway.

From this angle is stunning but i'm just not convinced on the rear lights. They look too big i think. For 30k i'd rather have a 3 series coupe too...

They are trying to replicate the same design process as the old Compact. Build to a budget, say it will be Golf/Focus prices then massively overprice it
Far better specc'd cars for the same money with room, flair and no repmobile image. The 3 series was outselling the old Mondeo FFS, the new Dagenham Dave machine
