If you are a good customer and sweet talk the dealer and they'll do it for free, if not then about £75 will do it.

There are a lot of options that can be configured into the key, google it and see what would work for you and get it all done at the same time.

That's fine, my mistake was an oversight, carelessness if you like.

Your mistake was deliberate, a far worse crime.

People make mistakes, people may not know what's right, happens to all of us. People who deliberately get it wrong, well..................

Harry..

BMW's do have that feature as standard...

With the car locked up,press the unlock button and keep it pressed for upto 20 secs.. Windows and roof should open(thats if you have a fully electric roof)..
Again, with them all down, press the closed button and keep it on for 20secs or so...Will close the windows at the very least..

cheers mate. I have tried it but no luck. Would it have re-setted it if a key battery was changed somewhere along the line? I've held it for 10secs or so...so will try 20secs.

Our 05-Plate 330d 'Converter' will drop the roof and windows if you hold the unlock button for around 10secs.. I would expect yours to do the same, maybe a word with your local dealer would help.

Cheers,
Grant

You can't change the key in the E46 key as it recharges in the ignition. All E46 Convertible roofs are full electric, as well. There was never a manual roof version.

As I was told by the Master Tech it should do it, try it manually, put the key in the door keyhole and turn it to the unlock position and hold it there, this should activate the roof and windows to go down.

I'll ask again tomorrow to confirm it and I'll let you know.

I stand corrected, it is a programming option on all E46 Convertibles and not a standard thing.

The key does need to be programmed to do it. The Master Technician has also warned that it is really hit and miss as to whether it will work properly, this is down to the software on the cars Control Module.

After a bit more digging, the MT has also said that on occasion the roof may stop retracting whilst going down via the key. He said if it does this just press the lock button then unlock button and hold down the unlock button to get the roof moving again, it will carry on going down from its position. He said that sometimes the car "remembers" when the roof is fully down then and will be fine from then on.
