My sister has blown up her car! here is the email...

its polo gti 1.6 (1598cc) 2 door silver, registered 19/01/2000 2 owners (including me) MOT till aug 08 (i have copies of every MOT). new brakes nov 2007 (i have receipt) and new yokohama tyres sometime last year as well. 62k miles. basically it goes to start but doesnt turn over, i put oil in it the weekend before and i dont think i put the cap on tight enough (kicking myself) and the light came on so i went to pull over and big cloud of smoke appeared, lifted bonnet and no oil cap. the green flag guy said will need new or reconditioned engine.

Is it worth selling as spares/repair or just get it towed to the scrapper?

I'd advertise it for spares.

Polo GTI's were never that popular hence the very low prices. I looked at these when considering buying a second car for the daily commute.

If after a couple weeks no parts are sold, scrap it.

Is a replacement engine going to be that expensive?? Where is the car just now??

Cheers,

Quoted cost was very close to worth of car less scrap value. This is probably an ideal project for someone who can do the labour themselves.

Car is in Manchester.
