Yes i plan on buying one in jan when the insurance will half for me. 10k seems a bit cheap tho. The ones ive been looking at are 13-16k mark. Seem to be able to get a very decent one for that price.

Wonder how much the CSL's are going for nowadays?

Drink fuel worse than a scooby?

Sound tinny and un-manly?

A bit lardy?

Costs a fortune to keep?

i think the main reason other then credit crunch is that these look old and dated compared to a new 3- series and plus the 335i is just as quick as these are

my bro had a 335i it was mental, if he could get a good standing start with out traction kicking in then it was close but he never won to 60 once, past me at 70ish all the time.
On the M ways left me dead like rolling start 70 and he was a fair few car lenghts in front by 100. Did i say M way I ment track day. G meters 0-60 on my scoob 5.3 my bros 5.7 with me driven bro got 6, 6.3, 6.5 my 1st 2nd 3rd 5.7 5.73 5.71, if i had driven it for a few days may have it low 5's.
Was looking at the M3 cost of the low price 335i's on 06 so still to steep, but 10k even 12-13k for a M3 worth it in my book. As the beemer crue say you can't beat M POWER.

Trip computer on my bros 335i says 26mpg not bad, when i get 21-23 max.

wouldn't mind something like an M3 to replace the scoob with, could do with something a little bit more comfortable to drive as the scoob is quite harsh (Tein SS, whiteline ARB's etc fitted)......... bloody hell I must be getting old, never thought I would hear myself say such things

Only thing I find with the BMW's is most of them seem to have high mileage, scoobs a 2004 STI with only 35k on the clock so going to a beemer with 60-70k+ on it im no so sure of.

Anyone know how many miles out of a tank you would get in the M3? What power are they standard 300bhp+?

bhp 338 i think, they have a 63 litre tank and should get around 20-25mpg so thats 280 and 350 mile per tank.

Cracking cars IMO. Circa 340bhp for the E46.

But......gave one a go against the Spec C from 90mph at a test facility the other day for a laugh. This is M3 territory.

The M3 SMG owner could not believe how quick the scoob was...... oh, and I was in 6th all the time (he dropped to 4th). I overtook the M3 straight away and left it for dead, like it was standing still.

Will be testing against a new M5 soon..... I suspect it will be the same story, if not quite as convincing as the M3 scalp.

I love modified jap crap.

Not really. M3 exhaust note has never impressed and doesn't compete against the flat 4 IMO. M3 is nearly 300KG heavier than a classic.

Heavier on fuel than a UK turbo and finally I honestly can't see it being cheaper or even on a par with an Impreza to keep.

I have had an M3 for over 2 years , they are good on fuel considering what they are , I get on average about 25mpg , my RB5 used to do less than 20 mpg with the same driving , on a run I get around 35 , it hasn't cost me anything to run in that time except tyres and fuel , they are very well built. You dont have to worry about mileage on these cars if they have been serviced right , mines on 70k and the engine is perfect.

They are quoted as 343bhp , mines an SMG and I love it , I have had a go against an RB320 and I just got past him going from 30 to about 90 , you have to rev them hard to get the best out of them.
I was thinking about getting an CSL when I got mine , but I wanted all the creature comforts which you dont get get with them , so I got a 'normal' one and bought CSL wheels for it.

I have been thinking about getting an RS4 , so this one will be for sale then

I prefer the shape of the E46 M3 to the latest one, love the wide front arches.
Ian's car above looks a beaut, in the best colour for a BM

Having used both as the daily commuter (90 mile round trip) at some point over the last 8 years i can tell you that doing the same run, and driving in the same style, the M3 IS better than the scoob on the mpg front.

I recently did 380 miles on a 59l tank in the M3 cruising at 80 to 85. The same trip in the scoob would be lucky to get 280 miles.

Running cost wise, they arent cheap to service, but when the intervals are twice that of a classic, they become cheaper.

I still have both cars, and when the scoob is running, it will absolutely anihalte the M3 in any given circustance on the road. However, not once have i taken the Scoob on the daily commute in the last 2 years!

M3 SMG doeas what it says on the tin IMO, cant fault it, yet, after 60000 miles in 2 and half years!

Yeah im after one to replace my focus commuter car. Will be keeping the scoob.

Always wanted an m3, bought time i bought one .

i think the e46 is still the best looking m3

I want something quick, RWD, comfy, prestegious, looks good, sounds good, and something i wont want to modify the heck out of. M3 ticks all these boxes (for me).

the E46 M3 was the first proper quick car i ever went in. I hope it doesnt turn out to be a dont meet your heroes, now that ive been scoobing for a while..

Are the SMG's good? as thats what id be looking for. Should make Reading traffic much nicer. Can you still launch/11's the SMGii?

Seems a CSL went recently for 16k at auction!

SMG is the way to go, do not do manual.

Yes you can 11's the SMG2, well you can at least on my 55 plate. Just make sure the engine is fully warm first so you get the full complement of launch revs

Dont compare the drive to the scoob, they are aimed at two different things. Get your head round that, and your hero will be ok.

Wicked.

I best get saving then. Ill be looking at something 02-03 by the looks of it. I would prefer low milage rather than newer. Either black of CSL grey hopefully.

Been trawling the m3 forums, if u can recommend any that would be good.

As i say i need to save up some money so Jan is the date im aiming for.

That is if i dont spend much more on the scoob.

M3s are amazing cars

ive owned every model made and you cannot fault them e30,e36,e46,e92

i still own a CSL and these are a completely different animal to a normal M3

like a 1998 uk turbo then get in and drive a ve3 sti type r

they are very expensive to maintain.preventitive maintenance is the key to their continued reliability and sadly its what doesnt get done on the whole

buy the absolute best car you can with the budget you have dont be chasing reg plate letters

better an older car withperfect maintenance than a newer car with a sketchy past it will only bite you in the pocket later on

very capable car and in csl guise devastating

Yeah ive plent of time to get looking and reading n saving.

need to learn the differening specs, i would be after all the goodies

It would have to be an immeculate condition.

Might go look at some on the weekend start getting a feel for them. Just leave my wallet at home
