Impreza wrx wont start after crank sensor replacement !

Yesterday my mates Impreza '95 Wrx wouldnt start after a short run. We checked the ecu fault codes which gave an 11 which is for the crank sensor.
Replaced the crank sensor this morning and reset ecu. The car will still not start and is not showing any ecu fault codes !

Anyone got any ideas ?

It should piss out in a big way, first for about 2 ish seconds when you first turn on the ignition, then when you are cranking the engine, I can hear mine "buzz" in the boot, I had a lose wire on mine in the tank, also does it have an imobiliser ? you could get a voltmeter / test light and see if you are getting power to the pump

petrol pump wires

found what i think are the feed to pump, block of four wires, 2 thicker ones and 2 thinner ones , tested with volt meter have power but only to one of the thinner ones ,is this right ? can hear no priming when ignition is switched on

nope , should have 12 v across the 2 thick ones when you first turn ignition on for approx 2 sec`s, or at least for a short time, to pressurise system, then when cranking, check both sides of the plug, I have seen the wire break inside plug to tank, is there an imobilicer fitted to the car ?

ps the thin ones are for the gauge,

petrol pump wires

took the plug off the pump cover tested voltage it dropped when cranking it over still only voltage at one wire, yes i have an imobiliser ,i suppose this makes it more complicated ? near to tears now lol cheers mark

pump wires

tim you were right ,thicker wire does get voltage for about a second then nothing but voltage returns when i crank it over does this point to the pump or am i just hoping ?

yep points to the pump or the connections to it, have a very good check of the plug onto the top of the tank first, if not remove cover , then unbolt tank cover / pump assembly in boot / through seats, again have a good look at the connections, on mine someone had fitted an uprated pump and the plug wasn`t quite right, you could also try the pump on a seperate battery,
be carefull with any form of spark when you have the "roof" off the tank, do not reconect the pump with it all open with the ignition switched on, and I would suggest a "mate " with a co2 / powder fire extinguisher about just in case,
