Fuchs Engine Oil?

Anyone used this? Is it any good? if not any recommendations.

Using Castrol at the moment and my car but have been told not to cus it's ****e(no explaination)

tarmac terror 15 April 2009 06:55 PM

Yep been using Fuchs semi synth 10/40 in my 1.9Tdi Leon for 7 years or 142,000 miles. Cant fault it at all. About £20 for this from GSF.

The impreza has covered about 30,000 on Fuchs fully synthethic oil 5/40, about £25 for 5 litees. When I get back from holiday the diff and gearbox oils will be replaced with fuchs stuff.

People are very quick to write castrol off with little or no reason, personally I wouldn't. I sometimes wonder if the same armchair experts have put the wrong Castrol oil into their motor, the Magnatec stuff I have used in the past and cant fault it, there are lots of people get hung up on the wording on the bottle - it says synthetically engineered, as opposed to synthetic oil or semi synthetic oil, is that your mates reasoing for stating that it is crap?

If its for your alfa mate, just put in the stuff that meets the oil spec in your handbook and ensure you change it on schedule, a bit of mechanical by way of allowing the fluids to come up to temprature before you dart her on will extend the old girls life somewhat too.

Jamz3k 15 April 2009 07:20 PM

As said my friend who told me not to use Castrol didn't give me an explaination, i just took his word as he is quite worldy. He was the one that actually recommended Fuchs as he uses it on his M3 and 325touring but thought i'd get the SN masses opinion.

Alfa romeo recommend 10/40 semi synth Selenia motor oil but i think its more to do with them being owned by Fiat/Alfa at one point.

In my Fiesta I use Fuchs 5w-30 Titan XTR and seems to be doing a great job

scubbay 15 April 2009 08:34 PM

I use castrol on the chain of my bike. Never had a problem (except on steep hills)

tarmac terror 15 April 2009 09:32 PM

Think you need to check your power to weight ratios there Paul!!!

Jamz3k 17 April 2009 12:35 PM

gonna order 5litres of th shiz today and a new oil filter and have a go at serving my car.

No doubt many more questions to come:lol1:

oilman 19 April 2009 11:10 PM

Fuchs make some very good oils, we sell a lot of them. They are good value for money as well as giving good performance. If you want top performance, go for Silkolene, who are owned by Fuchs.

Castrol make some good oils, but often they cost a lot for what they are. Castrol Magantec is very similar to the Fuchs XTR, but comes in smaller containers and costs more. Their strength is the Edge range which meet many manufacturer specifications as well as being good oils. They also produce some very good gear and diff oils as well as brake fluids.

Cheers
Tim

Same here, always have, 10w/40. 40k miles and no issues. What do you ride Andy, bike wise ;)

v8voodoo 20 April 2009 11:07 AM

I use Fuchs Titan Supersyn SL 5w-40 in all my cars and not had any problems. They also run quietly too and no oil pressure issues even on my big Chevy motor. GSF sell it very cheaply indeed....

oilman 20 April 2009 01:48 PM

We'll beat them, if you ask nicely.........

Yeh, agreed, everyone and their dog has kwak green. Went for a red J1, only 3-4 I've seen in the North. Friend used to have that colour scheme in the 7R:

We can do things on carriage if there are a group of you. Might be worth clubbing together and getting cheaper carriage with the oils delivered to one address.

Cheers

to be honest, i hate all the people on this website and couldn't be arsed talking to them in order to set up a group buy?:D

How about i ring you, and get the oil and delivery for £40 on the dot, i get my car serviced and then tell everyone how fooking awesome Opieoils is?:lol1:

oilman 22 April 2009 08:22 PM

I may be able to do a deal, but I don't know what service pack you were looking at. Let me know and I'll see what I can do.

We're pretty stuck on courier charges and they are too high for NI, but we only charge what we have to pay. We're looking at setting up a new system using the Royal Mail, so I think NI would cost the same as mainland UK, but due to restrictions with oil and thing like octane boosters, it's taking quite a while to work out what we can and can't do.

They also have a branch in N.I. They generally do 10% off over here on the mainland, so if a deal can't be struck with OpieOils, then maybe worth looking here if it's any good to you: GSF Car Parts - Belfast Branch Map

:)
