I ordered 5 litres of Gulf competition 10W-40 and 5 litres of Gulf Competition 75W-90

changed the engine oil, gearbox oil, and the Diff oil.

Can honestly say its brilliant stuff, i can genuinely tell the difference in the gearshifts.

for the price and knowing the quality of the oil is top notch, its a worth while investment and an area i think people should be spending money on and not going for cheap alternatives.. just the same as tires.. regardless how well built your car is and what expensive parts you have OIL is very important. !!! so why not go for top of the range oil if you genuinely care about your car.

Brilliant, glad it's working out well for you. It is a top end oil and a lot of people that have used other top end oils went to the Gulf to save some money, then stuck with it when the prices went up for a while (they are back to where they were now).

They are both top end oils and I'd have no preference. Red Line is better proven, but the Gulf oils are better value and still very good.

Hi I use motul300 gearoil but if I am on track and I have made a couple of laps I have the feeling it's getting harder to shift.
How can this be the gearoil is not that old.

I have no idea, it's top end gear oil and well proven in Imprezas. Is your car standard or modified? Is the box modified?

Box isn't modified normaal dccd box but engine is forged 440hp 20%meth.

Very odd, normally the Gear 300 is ideal for that sort of set up. Perhaps try one of the other 75w-90 GL5s next time, like Millers CRX NT, Red Line 75w-90 NS or Gulf Competition.

It really depends on how much use the car is getting and then how much of that is on track, but I would think probably every year or two if it goes on track a lot.

Tim, speaking to a friend of mine he mixed Redline Shockproof Light with his gear oil in his 2005 Impreza and said it transformed his box.

Could I mix (he did 50/50) the shockproof with the Gulf Competition oil? Safe?

Yes, it's safe to mix them. I've heard that it can make a big difference, but others have said it's made no difference.

I will have to send this link to my mate so he can try this with his.

I tried a bottle of shockproof with 3.2 litres of syntrax, didnt do anything lol, not sure if 4 or 5 bottles alone of shockproof would be better than no mixing at all but at near £90 its expensive gamble.

syntrax doesnt seem to cure the crunches anymore :-(

That is only a quarter of the oil in the box having the Shockproof molecules, so that is quite a dilution.

a quart bottle should of done something tho, it certainly coloured all the gear oil blue from that small bottle !

No, a higher dose would not cause damage, it's not supposed to be mixed, but some people do. It's an oil not an additive, so really it should be in the box on it's own. I wouldn't expect one bottle in 4L to make any difference, like I wouldn't expect one litre of 10w-60 to make much difference to the running of an engine if it was added to 5w-30.

With the DCCD, you want the Gear 300 for the gearbox and then the Gear 300LS for the diff.

Hi, my Name is Max,

I'm from Germany and last week I bought an stock WRX STI WR1 with already 90k miles on it.
Since I don't know how long the gearbox and rear diff have not been serviced I'd like to change the oil in both of them.
Since my car is a WR1 it has according to the internet Suratrac front and rear LSD's and also DCCD.
The gearbox seems to be in a healthy condition, no grinding noises when driving the car harsh. The only problem I have is that with low temperature (below 10°C) getting the first gear (and some times the second gear) in is for the first miles not so easy.
After doing 3 hours of research I found out that the Motul Gear 300 should be put in the gearbox and the rear diff, but maybe I'm wrong here.

So my question is which oil should I get for the gearbox and the rear diff?

The gear 300 is ideal for the gearbox, but I would use a 90 LSD oil in the rear, like the Motul 90PA, Fuchs Gear 90LS or Castrol Axle Z.

I've just filled up with gulf competition recently and it's been excellent. Changed the diff oil aswell and it was just literally 2 nuts on the diff. 1 nut to drain and 1 nut to fill up.

first of all thanks for your answer. So although having a Suretrac rear diff you recommend a 90 LSD oil? I thought only diffs with clutches need special LSD oil :wonder:

I thought the DCCD cars have clutch LSDs? Is the Suratrac one mechanical? I'm not familiar with Suratrac. To be honest, you are fine using LSD oils in open diffs anyway, I recommended the 90 LSD oil as a safe option either way.
