Shell V-Power vs Tesco 99 RON ??

whats better Shell V-Power or Tesco 99RON????

Probein 08 September 2010 01:41 PM

I only use V-power. Have heard bad things about Tesco fuel - apparently they use additives or something which aren't good for the car.

Dee33223 08 September 2010 01:42 PM

For burning Sacred books id go for the Tesco brand myself.

For your car. V power all the way, although 99 is next best in my book. I always find it a bit jerky and hit or miss how good it is when you buy it. V power to me is the best and i use it always, i go through around £100-120 a week on it. Ouch!

Certainly not what Bob Rawle told me mate. He recommended it to me specifically. The one he said was crap was BP Ultimate. Who knows!?

Mm, could be right! Don't know to be honest, I've just seen some posts on here at some point complaining about Tesco stuff.

I just stick with V-power, as I understand it that's generally considered one of the best fuels.

chtpcpo 08 September 2010 01:45 PM

This seems to be fairly definitive

V-POWER ALL DAY LONG FELLA

If you do get stuck using the odd tank of Tesco 99 wont harm but if I was to choose then V-P for me.

plus v-p is only 1.17 round corner from me and tesco 99 is 1.21 a lil further away 2 so v-p is always the winner

Oh no, not this topic again...:confused: :(

Wow, that's just a long press release!

Also, they're comparing it against Optimax, not V Power :)

pimmo2000 08 September 2010 03:20 PM

Used nothing but Tesco on my last Impreza and it always ran better on it .. Vpower so far on this one .. for me I run it on the fuel it was mapped on ..

Looie 08 September 2010 03:28 PM

90% of the time I use Tesco, never had any problems in 8 yrs of running Scoobs....... When I use V Power I get around 22-23mpg, but with Tesco it's 23-24 on the same runs, but then my car was mapped using Tesco's so it should be more optimised for that fuel...

Depends what's available in your area. not everone can get both kinds...

V POWER all the way :notworthyunless you wana get lots of club card points for the misses lol.... ive used both in the past but found v power to have a slight edge over tescos ie; its closer :D

scooby350bhp 08 September 2010 05:21 PM

Been using Tesco 99 on my 97 uk spec impreza for 4 years no problems!

gallois 08 September 2010 06:51 PM

there seems to be a 'it's tesco, it must be cheap' attitude to tesco momentum (99), i have used it for 3years, not because i don't like v-power, it's just because it's closer to me, mine was mapped for v-power, so even with my 'choclate' pistoned (ffs!), 2.5 it hasn't blown up or anything. use either.

dazz86uk 08 September 2010 07:07 PM

tesco is the best stuff we can get on the isle of wight.otherwise its 97ron super unleaded, i have just heard alot of people talking about the v power. we have only just got 99ron down here within the last year. 3 petrol stations on the island that do it, and tesco being the best. as long as tesco's stuff is ok im happy lol

Korrosiv 09 September 2010 08:16 AM

I prefer V-power but if I'm stuck I'll happily use Tesco 99.

I do think V-power has the edge but I use millers octane booster on top of 99 ron fuel which really gets things going!

every1sgottablue1 09 September 2010 08:35 AM

Another vote for v power!

Camoscooby 09 September 2010 09:10 AM

There is no Shell near to me so I always use Momentum 99 and have had no problems and 'almost economical' fuel consumption;)

SirFozzalot 09 September 2010 09:14 AM

I use both, but for the last two years I've used much more Tesco 99 than V-Power. No problems for my STi. :thumb:

go to

http://www.tesco.com/storelocator/ and type in ryde

there are 2 locations on the map, petrol station is at location 1

Exaxtly! All we will get to this question are opinions, not scientifically proven facts.

L.J.F 09 September 2010 09:45 PM

they are both good fuel brands for use in your car mate;)

G-string 09 September 2010 09:53 PM

tbh i have always used both and cant tell any difference.

kj200sx 09 September 2010 10:16 PM

never had any probs with either have ran several cars on each with no probs or poor performance

daz1968 09 September 2010 11:20 PM

My MY05 jdm sti on original jap map runs fine on both, have checked using learning view and detect no significant knock or ignition retard with either. To be honest fuel consumption and performance same whichever I use. Tescos is 100 yards from where I work so use that most of the time, with the odd tank of v-power when I am near a shell station.

Razorwrx1 09 September 2010 11:23 PM

I have a Wrx 02 Bug. Was using V-Power but got caught short and had to use Tesco 99. Seems alittle better to be honest. Gonna keep using it for now and see how it goes. So far so good, and it's cheaper!

James Neill 09 September 2010 11:33 PM

Greenergy supply Tesco 99 RON (now called Momentum). Quality certificates are here

http://www.greenergy.com/Buying/fuel_certificates.html

Bioethanol is used to increase the RON rating.

In my view nothing wrong with the fuel, I use it in my car which is now at 137k miles. Have used Tesco 99 almost exclusively since I got the car when it had done just 32k miles.
