Mobile speed vans.....

Hyperthetical question, if someone was driving above the speed limit along a dual carriageway and there was a mobile speed van parked on the opposite carriageway could that person be done for speeding? Do the camera's read across carriageways? :wonder:

Depends on the type of tax van lol, there are some that are multi directional. I had a bit of sweat on a while ago, having just fitted a boost guage and testing it out, only to find a helicopter on my a$$, just glad it was not accompanied by an awaiting car lol.

I made the mistake of ignoring a mobile camera van on the opposite carriageway in Surrey and was sent a court date through the post. Luckily the summons stated the wrong speed limit for the road i was on, so i got away with it on a technicality, as i would have received one hell of a ban and fine.

When did these van become operational. I don't think we have them in Scotland.

Was there not a human rights thing about cameras taking pictures of your face.

I've searched the internet and it some sites say yes and some say no....Most peoples replies are "wait 14 days to see if you get a nip in the post"

Anger 08 January 2011 07:00 PM

Another one in Surrey, A24 heading out of Dorking has a camera van hidden alot that does both ways

EH52WRX 08 January 2011 07:15 PM

I have not seen any of these vans. I have only seen the standard head on vans with one sad tw$t sitting in the back. Having a 5 knuckle shuffle about how many victims he's caught that day.

alcazar 08 January 2011 07:33 PM

They can shoot you coming, or going and yes they CAN shoot you across a dual carriageway barrier.

You just have to wait and see.

Nope. I remember taking my Y plate UK300 up the A66 to Cockermouth in 2002 on my way to a mates wedding and there were at least two camera vans on that road on that day

EH52WRX 08 January 2011 07:49 PM

Mmmmmmmm I still haven't seen any. Must try and find me one. LOL. All the ones up here are one way.

alcazar 08 January 2011 08:16 PM

They may APPEAR to be, but if they are using laser, trust me, they CAN shoot you coming or going.

So where do you think the camera was.

Surely the camera must be up high to catch the other lane, on the opposite carriageway.

MaDaSS 08 January 2011 10:42 PM

Vans I have seen in Nottingham DEFINITELY shoot across dual carriageways.
We have a regular one near our QMC hospital that looks at a flyover and it is placed superbly to get those both towards it and on the other carriageway going away from it as the cars move up the flyover.
