When to change sti timing belt?
 

Hey all,

My motor is 2.5 and I only do 1-2k a year. When the engine was built I had the sti belt fitted, any ideas when this should be replaced on a low miles motor?

std belt interval is 50,000 miles or 5 years if I recall

Anyone been quoted for sti belt and changing it, inc adjuster...had price of 700 notes! :freak3:

Slowboy Racing near Dartford quoted me £200. Not sure if this included all the tensioners though as it needs to be full kit ie tensioners not just the belt.

A good dealer will check to see the condition of the pully etc, if it needs replacing or not.

200 sounds pleasant and the norm, prob not inc belt...oe sti belt 100 and something notes on it's own?

Best thing to do is to ring Slow Boy. They are extremely well recommended on here. They would not quote to do the timing belt and not include the belt lol. However they may not have included the tensioners or the pulleys etc, as all of that is ideally needed too (although I'm not an expert), but from my understanding these wear too and no point going to the expense of that labour and not changing everything at the same time. However best to speak to them to find out the details.

The 200 would be belt alone. I paid 320 for a kit including water pump and fitted it myself, just an idea of parts costs before labour.

Only one pulley was beginning to show wear but not worth not spending the extra really for peace of mind.

As suggested a tensioner or pulley giving way can also take out the belt. I'd be tempted on belt only if it hadn't covered the miles though. The belt will suffer from age but the pulleys mainly wear

make sure to do the water pump at the same time only few extra quid and if pump goes after youve had belt changed it will all have to come off again to have pump done, do it all now and no extra cost down the line :thumb:

Will I need that done as pump is 5 years old but only done a couple of thou miles.

How easy is it to fit belt yourself? Special tools?
