Hi all, remember this?

Time for a bit of an update. I decided to wrap up my racing season some weeks ago for a number of reasons. Firstly I ran out of money as my winters build had spiralled out of control and trying to finish the build at the same time as racing was just killing me.

On my final weekend outing at a B meet at Loton I broke an engine mount mid run and a turbo water hose split at the top and the car dumped all the water on the hot exhaust, it looked like a spectacular failure but on further investigation and with the help of some of the other racers it got repaired, not the greatest repair but enough to finish the days racing. The dredded misfire was back at Loton but after some discussions with Paul we finally figured it out and at my first visit to TOTB it didn't misfire once, the rest of the event was a total disaster but at least we fixed the misfire which has blighted my season. Stuck it in the garage then when loading up the car for the next outing ticking over in the garage a loud ticking noise just came up out of the block from nowhere I quickly turned off the engine and decided not to risk running it, it's hard to say what could have caused it or more importantly how serious it is, I don't know enough to begin to diagnose it. It's going up to Zen to have an proper investigation some time soon.

It is frustrating but I am quite relieved at the same time I can take a finacial breather from the cost of racing and get the car 110% for next season.

On a more upbeat note I have some more support/sponsorship for my racing from CJ fabrications, the guys who fitted my cage, they are setting up on their own and want to use my car as a demo car for their fabrication work and products they want to develop, the work is seriously impressive so far and I have attached plenty of pics below.

They have fabricated and fitted a custom made titanium side exit exhaust system which ways a mere 5kgs for the entire system compare this to 15.5kgs for the system I removed and it's a great weight save.

The boot floor has been plasma cut out and replaced with an ally sheet another decent weight saving

The drivers door has been hollowed out like the rest, 6kgs of metal was removed.

A Lifeline quick release steering wheel boss has been fitted.

Passenger seat rails so I can scare the missus.

A protective cage and mount for the ECU.

And finally general debracketing.

There is plenty more to come from them but thats it for now, if anybody is interested in race prep, fabrication work custom exhausts etc, baffled sumps etc. etc. Drop me a PM and I'll put you in touch.

I have also been done a set of plastic glass for next to nothing from Plastics 4 Performance - Specialist Manufacturers for the Motorsports Industry which is another good weight save and excellent finish quality, so a big thanks to Andy at Plastics 4 Performance.

My titanium exhaust system, I havn't got to hear it yet as I don't want to run the engine but I can't wait, the scorch mark is from a sealant fire not flamesout the exhaust, it will be getting covered by a heat shield.

Boot floor gone and replaced with flat ally sheet, some bumper work to reduce drag from the void created.

ECU mount and cage

Plastic glass kit, no it's not that colour its the protective film., the whole set is just 11.5kgs.

Next thing planned is a 5 speed dog box coming in at some 30kgs lighter than the 6 speeder I have in at them moment. So hopefuly when the car turns out in 2009 it should be <1050kgs from the 1100 it is at the moment.

I will keep updating with any developments across my extended close season and intend to come out better prepared and much faster next year.

I have you cut a section out the floor pan to fit the exhaust?

The titanium system gets alot hotter than stainless stell exhaust systems as its alot thinner and it was touching the floor pan in alot of places, i guess the lads cut the floor pan away to stop the heat transfering across the whole floor of the car.

Some progress on my car this week, albeit small.

I removed my battered sump which which on further inspection was very bent indeed and gave it to CJ Fabrications to be totaly refurbed and also baffled and the results are very impressive I think you will agree.

Click images to see in full size

If your interested in the same baffled sump set up for your car drop me a PM and I will put you in touch.

A bit of good news the oil came out clean with no sign of debris or damage which is a good sign and the engine should be coming out for a full inspection soon.

I fitted the front plastic windows which fit really well. I weighed the glass windows which were 5kgs each and the plastic replacements were 2kgs each so a good saving in the fronts alone I will do the rears when I have some time but the rear screen will need to be done by a pro.

Thats it for now, more updates soon.

Rob.

It being the passenger side is what confused me: Id assumed that with it being a full on prep, that thered only be the one chair...

Unfortunately Imprezas are in the minority and you cant make you own (they need to be thermoformed because the windows are frameless). I was going to buy from P4P but they doubled their Porsche prices in the eight months between my first enquiring and being ready to fit them, so Ive made my own. Ive had to bite the bullet and pay for a thermoformed rear glass but Ive saved over £200 on the drop glass and rear quarters...

Ahh, i see, but some events like SSO, TOTB and Time Attack require passenger seats.

OK!

Due to circumcumstances beyond my control I have had to make a seriously tough desicion and I have decided to sell my race car.

I will go into my choice in more detail soon and my long list of thank you's.

Due to not having a gearbox that can handle the power the engine is currently making I have decided to break the car as I don't want to spend the money on one at the moment.

I will be breaking the car in stages and if you have followed this thread at all you will know there is some serious stuff on this car.

So get over to the market place and grab ourself a bargain!

BREAKING! My Zen Performance Sponsored Hill Climb Car!

Shame Rob as you had a seriously sorted setup.

I am also on this path here in Cyprus and am selling the race car due to a race day costing 400 Euros for 3 minutes of racing. So in total 15 minutes of racing and 2000 Euros plus whatever goes wrong to be fixed in a season. Cannot justify keeping it sitting outside my house. If I do not sell by February may also consider breaking, although a bit difficult in Cyprus .

It does not help that I also have another road Scooby that does not work. Two Scoobies = no money I have three cars and have to walk to work

May even sell the road car and get a JDM Honda Civic Type R. No problems with any Honda I owned.
