I am taking the P1 on a booked Track Masters day this coming Sunday 7th Dec.

Should be a good chance to play with the new suspension.

I will try to film it (on board) and post it in this thread.

Track Masters day at North Weald. (1st real test )

A great day and would advise it for anyone who wishes to learn advanced race driving techniques, all of which is in your own car.
Morning consisted of 1 on 1 tuition from Mike & Anthony Wilds regarding heel/toe down shifting, left foot braking, slow & fast cornering techniques and obtaining the general feel of the car keeping momentum throughout.

Just before lunch we had an opportunity of having several practice laps on our own. The sprint course involved 2 high speed straights many tight & very tight left & rights a fast left and a stonking right sweeper heading onto the concluding straight.

Other cars included light & heavily modified Impreza's, Evo's and a Prodrive RX8.

My suspension set up was at the road going "20", with 2.0 bar tyre pressure.

After lunch we commenced the timed laps. 5 laps each throughout the afternoon.

1st session. 1:18secs (equal first place sharing with non stock Evo 10)
2nd session 1:15 fastest lap
3rd session 1:15 fastest lap
4th session I ran a 1:17 and a modified Evo8 ran a 1:14
(have now set the EXE to 35 for the final run)
5th session Aborted due to fading light and cooling track temps.

Overall 2nd against the winning Evo8 running just short of 500bhp + tricky boos. Having said that he did drive well.

It was my first attempt at driving the P1 at full bore and it delivered big time.
The tight sections of the course were ok but the car was something else to drive on the fast sections. Really impressive and a dream to drive.

The course had many bumps & ridges but the mechanical grip was impressive.
With traction failing on power through the box leading onto the final straight it was still very controllable.

One of the instructors (Mike Wilde) with 40 yrs racing inc F1 testing & 8 time Le Man driver jumped in the passenger seat and said "ok lets go", I said "ok but you take me for a lap afterwards" He replied " I would love to".

index

Not one word was mentioned throughout the lap and once over the finish line we looked at each other (both sporting a fantastic grin). His views on the car were impressive.

A couple of pix. I have video on board during one of the 1:17 laps. Just trying to format it for windows and will put it in thread.

Don't know if buzzing is the right word Freak, I was a bit pissed because I knew there was much more left the car and would have put money on it that a clean lap would have been a much quicker.
I cant moan, the car performed really well but still learning. Driving the car flat out around fast bends and such like is different because everything feels very refined. It will take much practice.

And yes mate, it was a great day.

It's all about sharing the same interest mate, not who's got what. You are more than welcome Sleepy.

No they did not actually teach you to power slide, more left foot braking while on power at same time, and heel / toe on downshifts.

Regarding power slides there are two options really, you either go into a bend fully committed with the intention of power sliding, or corner fast enough until you feel the car get loose then control using throttle & steering wheel. The first option will require more experience.

Regarding "bottle going" you really need to be in the right situation to try it.
The Track Masters day is good because it's in an Aerodrome, so you can lose the car at high speed without the risk of track barriers or sideways into gravel traps and chances of flipping.

Sleeper Sy's GL does come with a turbinator though. I've thought about one but it wouldn't be fair on people running below 700bhp...

Don Palmer is the man if you want to be given the confidence to powerslide. Not cheap at 400ish from memory for 3 drivers at a time for a day but he does make a real difference for both track driving and road - runs courses at Bruntingthorpe, Millbrook and MIRA (although not totally sure if he's still doing the latter). Mark Hales also works with him.

Thanks Fat Boy,

Considering my investment in the GL, I think it will be wise to get some training
