*** Newage 2 door type R ***
OK, following on from my old project car...
https://www.scoobynet.com/projects-4...-the-road.html
which is now my daily driver, and serving me well, I thought it about time to show what I am getting up to next...
I am planning on creating a newage 2 door coupe.
As far as I know there aren't any that I feel have been done properly.
Sure there have been some cars where the rear doors were welded up, but still retained the original size front door, which is not what I am after.
I could also do a short wheelbase jobbie, like Simon Norris' EVO, but again not what I am after.
Those that know me well, will know that I have been talking and planning this car for the last couple of years.
However, there have been small areas that I just couldn't work out how to do, or sort out.
I think I have sorted most areas out, and those that I haven't sorted out in my head I'll just have to work out as I go along..
In keeping with the old classic type R style of 2 door, I plan on keeping the length and wheelbase of the car as original.
I am going to have longer doors, a relocated B post and a nice rear quarter panel all in proportion.
Obviously I am also going to need longer door glass, longer door trims etc.., shorter rear quarter glass, and so on..
Now, I have a choice of 2 donor cars, depending on how confident I feel.
The first is this 2003 STi type UK bodyshell...
Great basis, and if it goes all wrong then so what...
The only problem is that there is no running gear at all, which could cost a few pennies to complete, allied to the fact that it is also up for sale at the moment..
The other donor car is this...
Which is also great, because all the running gear etc is done and complete, but I could end up with a worthless bodyshell.
Anyways, that's what I am upto, and hopefully we should see some progress over the next few months..

Mate,I have always wondered what a two door newage would look like.
Your white car is beautiful. It would be a shame to butcher it,but,on the other hand,it would look ****ing amazing,as a two door.
Look forward to seeing the finished article.

One of the first things I had to work out, was the proportions of the conversion, and where exactly to move the B post to, along with how much longerer to make the doors..
I am pretty lucky where I am, in that there are always a few Subaru's knocking about, and I needed to measure up the proportions of the classic 2 and 4 door bodyshell, and compare the dimensions of the glass and doors to the newage shell.
I then measured the newage shell and I have come up with a magic number...
13
So the doors, door glass, door weather strips, interior door cards, door seals etc are going to be 13cms longer.
Obviously that means that the B post will be 13cms further back, and everything else will be 13cms different in some way or another...
I have made a start to the 'project' today, and threads like these are excellent in generating enthusiasm, which is one of the reasons I have started the thread.
THE main problem I am going to encounter however as the project unfolds, will be funds.
I will get to a point pretty soon where by I will need to spend serious dosh in order to create a complete new car from scratch, which would have to be an improvement from my previous car.
We shall see.........

Do the white one Neil!
I know 100% that you can do it and wont end up with a butchered shell. It will be kin' epic to see this actually done and done properly. Doing the white one will also save you doing all the things youve done already all over again.
With you 100% mate, cant wait to see this
Gotta have a name change on eth thread.

have to admit my first thought was a subaru clone of the norris evo; swb, roof chop etc
but can imagine all the hassle involved with the extra fabrication and modified parts needed would be immense..........
