Thanks Craig your not the first to say about mirrors but I don't know as I do like to keep things low key you have to has some secrets

Very pleased to say the car flew through its MOT today without any issues at all.
You can never take anything for granted even after all this work and surprisingly I've covered 1,513 miles in the last year, when you consider the car was parked up for a while after RallyDay then again over the winter I'm happy with that.

Thanks Glenn... Daz

Had a dent man spend a couple of hours on the car Saturday and he's done a great job, white is forgiving but also hard to work on and he was doubtful with a couple of them on how well they would come out but when he started it all went really well and he was very pleased on how things turned out. It looks great I'm really pleased with the results and far better than I imagined as well, there is one pin dent that I'm going to have to talk to my painter about as it's not dent man fixable, a bad pin dent stretches the metal so it cannot be corrected by paint less repair.

Small update with a few pictures today....

So virtually a year on since the first outing to Rallyday and I find myself spending some time recently getting the car ready for this years Rallyday !
I spent a little time under the car simply used a damp cloth and G101 and freshened things up then applied a very quick coat of wax to help it long term.

Also applied my club decals

It's proved quite easy to look after and maintain which was always in the plan.

Insane underneath, I'm taking this as inspiration for my own RA :-) Can I ask how you painted the underside? Was it done on a ramp or did you have a way of putting the car on it's side?

Thanks guys it may not look it but I have used this in the rain many times, it's starting to feel like a rain magnet ! Very pleased with the ease of maintenance with the top coat underneath it just wipes off easily.

The car was stripped and the shell went onto a spit.

Ok a small update as I'm still looking at a few little jobs here...

First off took the plunge and ordered a couple of wing badges, no way around this as I need them and the old ones are completely shot to bits as the pictures show.

I need to take some measurements before fixing them to get the correct position on the wings.

Also I was offered a great deal on powder coating my winter wheels, it was through a contact but it was basically what colour roughly and I had to simply see what was handed back. The result of anthracite is certainly different but nevertheless I like them, it's almost like a grey undercoat colour but I do feel on a white car these will work and for winter and park up wheels in happy with the results, I used the polishing machine on them earlier the get some more shine in the spokes and they came up really well.

Before polishing.

After.

A couple of Rallyday shots.

Car does look very nice, although I'd have to get the front wings repainted as it'd bug the hell out of me them being a whiter shade like that.

I really liked my old sti RA, was such a good drive.

The picture exaggerates the difference in the colour, there is a difference between new and old but not as bad as the pictures show. The doors are original with 20 year old paint, it's difficult where do you stop to. I'm used to it now and don't take to much notice at all.

There's always one

Yes indeed Scott I think that just maybe one yes.... there's about 6 on the car mostly under the bonnet, the bumper bar bolts plus bonnet catch, either these were missed, not coated very well or even not mine which is a possibilty that have developed some scab on them. No big shakes they are on my winter list of jobs to prep for in the spring I'll just go around the car and take a picture of the scabby one's nice and easy then to sow what I need to buy.

The classics have their fair share of problems with dent removal. I've done a fair few now with good results. Only just got around to taking the dents out of my white type r after 2 years of ownership and yes, white is forgiving but also difficult to see when working, even with a light board. I generally find that the classics get very rippled panels as well as dents. The slight ripples are very hard to get rid of but those sharp stretched pin dents you refer to can be a nightmare to remove and as you have found out, not always possible.

Great car you have built!

Many thanks there... Yes ripples are a devil ! I have contacted a smart repair company just to see if they could repair it but it's out of their scope... He passed my pictures of the pin dent to another dent man who thinks he can remove it, as yet I've not had chance to contact him but I will be shorty to see what he thinks.

I had a good run down to Brands Hatch on the weekend for Modified Live and Time Attack, I covered 378 miles and the car ran faultlessly. I'll run the car now until the end of this month then it will be sorn for the winter months, I'll drop the winter wheels on shortly and draw a short list up of jobs that I'll be getting ready to do in the spring. The first parcel will be delivered tomorrow

One from Brands on the SIDC stand.
