yep i renewed mine on tuesday on a 2005 Spec C at £400 bloody robbers

I love the way that (not sure about others) the Spec C gets a CO2 rating of 325g/km. When you compare that to the UK car etc its quite ridiculously more. Its up there with bloody Lambo's and Ferrari's.

I just paid £210 for my Spec C, a mix up on my V5 means the DVLA think my car was registered in 2004 in the UK. :)

Just taxed my scooby. for 6months £101.75 as its a classic and was reg before 2001 i get away with it but i think £400 is just stupied.

A friend of mine just taked his Vauxhall astra for 6months and because it comes under the new tax system it cost him £121 for a 1.8petrol.... thats is just wrong

you can refund your road tax at any point as far as i know....they only pay back complete months remaining. ont see any reason why you coudnt then re-tax it....although you wouldnt have any paperwork???? reminder etc?

I believe u can claim up to 4months tax back.... if u cancel it and put it on a sorn but just use your log book and mot and insurance when taxing it again.

They will only go ahead with another U-turn on policy of Brown goes as this will end any credibility he has. They are simply appeasing back benchers at the moment saying they will consider the views.

I believe the current proposed taxes will change at the next budget. However, I think that for the highest polluting cars like the Impreza the high rates will remain. I'd say Darling will compromise on the lower polluting cars and still hammer bang G 'retrospectively'.

Let's face it there won't be a big Labour MP rebellion on band G cars and their tax rates registered since 2001.

Imported it new when it was the SVA test, so no ESVA, hence no CO2 rating on V5.

If for example a change of engine was made then would the CO2 reading on the V5 be illegible for change also?

I think as far as UK cars are concerned I was lucky to get an 03 WRX as it will be £300, was planning on an 05 sti as next car to catch under the new rates but now they have changed will stick with this and maybe fit pinks and a larger turbo next year, If I only had 1 car it wouldn't be to bad paying £400, but having a cossie as well for weekend fun makes it out of the question really, only hope for the future I see is a jdm hatch impreza as some of those are in same tax as mine and have 260 or 305bhp, just a shame what they are doing really as I only do low miles and probably add less CO2 to the atmosphere than some of the people at work with smaller cars, as they do far more miles than me and use more petrol a week. I thought CO2 would be related to how much fuel you use, so is better to have a low road tax as if you use more fuel, and hence add more CO2 to the atmosphere you are then paying more. Britain trying to lead the world with green issues will close a lot of business in this country and it will just move to China, can't really see any future for manufacturing here anymore. I have started to go back to college again at a grand old age of 40 to try to ensure I can stay in work, if all else fails will have to leave the country I was born in and was proud to have been. All due to the lame excuse for a government that we have. It makes me very angry the way its all going.

Anyway off my soapbox, I just hope they see the error of their ways before its to late.

Quite a few people have a Scooby as a second car and only do a few thousand miles a year so that into account, the high insurance and now £400 tax it's not a drop in the ocean.

Let's not forget that car tax is for road is for the upkeep or the road system and not supposed to be a green tax.

I don't understand why some people are allready paying £400 for tax just renewed mine and it was £210 for 12 months on a 2003 STi type uk.

I think £400 for road tax is just a rip off. I mean come on. I have driven in other countrys like france were they you don't have to tax your car but if you use the motorways then u pay tolls which isn't that expensive and yet they have much better roads than owers. I may be knit picking but the amount of money the goverment takes of us. Tax Fuel Tax, VAT on Fuel. then VAT on the Car you by. and Councils are still crying out for extra cash from the treasure to fix there roads. Hull roads are crap. the roads round tidworth Crap. the M3 is crap (unless u drive on lane 1) M4 the same M1 parts have been fixed but thats due to the widdening of it. Country roads are crap. If you have a smooth road anywere and u don't have to dodge the pot holes or take ya car in to get the tracking sorted cos of the roads i would like to know.

England is has the worst roads in the EU.

its because they were registered after 1/3/06, even some imports that were made before that date but were reg'd in this country after that date have to pay the higher band:freak3: , that (to me and many others) proves that their just trying to rip us off any way they can.

They dont have to: its a clerical error being made and perpetuated by VRO clerks. A 1999 (for example) car imported and registered here in 2008 doesnt have to pay the inflated VED rates.
