At the moment its nothing but rumour. Nothing has been confirmed.

TOKYO, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd (7270.T: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz), maker of Subaru-branded cars, said on Tuesday it would hold a news conference at 6 p.m. (0900 GMT) regarding its motorsport activities.

I'm not surprised. The amount of money it costs for a season is phenominal. Also Subaru are'nt exactly setting the pace for car sales/credit crunch etc...

And the Beeb quoted Reuters as their source too - journalism is not what it used to be

Does not look good though..........

Edited to say that this was just after 09.00 so they may be reporting the press conference announcement.

Subaru don't have an obvious model for the new Super 2000 rules, I suppose they've thought why bother spending shed loads on developing the Impreza further when next year would have been it's last anyway?

Makes sense really when cash is tight

SAD day when the only genuine 4WD Turbo Car manufactuer withdraws from it makes a mockery of the FIA & the WRC valueless. IMHO

It's always an issue when major rule changes are announced for the season after, in the short term how can the management justify continued spending on the WRC Impreza when next year would have been its last?

In the long term hopefully they'll be back with a car under the new rules as it will cost a lot less to develop & run

sad day
subaru made it pretty obvious with the new impreza they wanted to move away from their old rally nutter owner stigma to a more civilised car, cut their ties completly now.

we're part of a dying breed scoobynetters, it'll be reps in subarus from now on, not enthusiasts

Just heard it on Radio 2, must be gospel! What a shame Subaru have spent all that money developing the "beautiful" new hatch just to have to pull out of the WRC.

Sad news, is this the final nail in the coffin for the "new" Impreza then?! I'm sure it was always hoped that the new design would do well in the rallies and assist with sales, well the car is'nt selling and now with no visual profile will it sink into the depths of history?

Not good news for Subaru UK either this, their sales are already down 3 fold on this time last year (according to Evo) and their new model has not really been much of a help either.

Lets face it, if Subaru can't sell a real headturner like the Impreza hatch during a recession, what chance has any other manufacturer got?
