Default ppp v the others mega test

I found this interesting reading, a group test by Evo mag of sti upgrades on a 1/4mile straight using top notch timing stuff.

It compares the sti ppp pack with others on the market, including the popular tsl333 remap (a remapped ppp really)

It shows a difference of 0.4 of a second to 100mph between the ppp and the tsl333.
The in gear times are also very close in the low and mid range <0.5 second, but it does show that the tsl and most remaps rev higher so gains are made there. The ppp power drops off after 6k for mechanical sympathy.

Worth the £600 remap? I don't think so.

Nice to see some real timed data, rather than horsepower plots. After all, its the time that makes the difference

Yea but remaps aren't all about straight line performance n 1/4 mile times, the torque increases in the right places makes a big difference to the driving experience. Look at the ingear times between the PPP n TSL, there are some significant gains over the PPP there, especially in 4th, 5th n 6th. Plus you usually get an improvement in MPG, so the £600 is well spent in my book

You mention the 0-100, but the 0-130 is over a second quicker for the TSL

The best gains are at high revs in all gears, not low down.
Get a bigger turbo (MD321H) then a remap, then you get some real gains not parts of a second

Yea but that's even more £££. A remap on a standard car is the 1st step really and provides a decently quick road car going on past experience.

Agreed. Having driven a PPP'd car both before and after a remap, different car altogether. Plus a jump of 50BHP and 30lbs of torque. Better all through the rev range.
