Hi, i have an sti ppp ( 55 plate but 2.0 ltr) dont really wont to change the exhaust or get involved in the slippery slope of modding it (just yet ) but i have bought another ecu off an identical car that has been mapped so no licence fee to pay . Is it worth me getting the car mapped with this new ecu as the car stands or will the gains in performance not be worth the cost? If that is the case i will hold out untill i know what to buy berfore mapping, not after any big bhp guys but 320 330 would be nice as the car stands but just remapped, is that possible
Had mine upgraded to TSL333 from PPP and it makes a big difference. Most ppp cars don't make 300 bhp anyway, mine was only 285 on the powerstation rollers( TSL measured at 295 on the road), now making 335bhp and it comes in earlier.
Bioforger: Bob Rawle is indeed a genius and he is in your neck of the woods. I used him to map my last car and he was very helpful, informative and polite. Saying all that I now have a 05 Sti which has been mapped by Simon and with the small mods i've done the car achieved circa 340bhp. Simon will travel to you as well so no real difference there. Just make a choice, both as good as one another. Bob is generally a lot busier has he has a full time job as well so if you want it done soon then Simon is probably the way to go.

Both guys have a great reputation. Simon (JGM) did mine and I found him really helpful. He explained everything (most of it went over my head ), and the results have been excellent, even with very few mods (cats both in) it hit 340/355.

2006 STi 'tweaked' to 340bhp/355lbsft
I must admit i was expecting a little more in the way of "its not worth doing unless you stick A Y or X on it" I,m not a great fan of huge exhaust's and really didn't wont to be faffing about changing things, i spoke to a couple of garages that said i may see 310bhp but if i stick there exhaust and a few other mods on i should get around the 330 mark, to be honest i'm happy with the car but i think the ppp package should of come out the box with a least 320 , so if i can keep the car as is and get it tweaked to around that figure i will be well chuffed, and at least i have the bonus of not scrapping the origanal ppp ecu .
so what would be the costs ALL IN for an MY06 hawkeye Sti with PPP remapped with JGM?
I have been thinking of this for a while and is it right that you get slightly better MPG when normal driving?
steve
£630.00 if I remember correctly with the licence, yes you do get slightly better MPG but the problem is you just wont to keep using the extra power more so you end up using more fuel
I had my 55 plate 2 litre same as yours remapped and made 320bhp in a 45 degree dyno cell last weekend. I'd expect a few extra horses in cooler conditions.

thats not too bad BTW the better MPG was just a foot note
so what would i expect from the 2.5 engine 360ish? sounds like a nice 'safe' number to me
We had 3 cars mapped on the same day and it was interesting to say the least because:
My my06 STi, totally standard except Afterburner centre section and back box, so both cats still in, made 302bhp/320lbs BEFORE the remap. And 340bhp/355lbs after
Mates 06 STi PPP made 291bhp/340lbs before the map (shows that PPP is hit and miss), although simon did say he thought the plugs could do with changing, and after remap made 350bhp/370lbs
The biggest surprise was the other one. A 54 plate Sti, totally standard apart from an upgraded fuel pump (done for the map), standard exhaust, made 268bhp/258lbs before the remap, and 330bhp/330lbs after!!.
So it shows that even without decat's etc, good figures can be had.
To answer the question of fuel economy, I am seeing about 30 miles per tank more
Steve

I had a de cat fitted at the same time as my map so was not totally standard, But my choice was to have a nice safe map as I intend to keep the car for a few years and the wife and I use the car as a kids taxi every day
After a couple runs on the rollers it produced a touch over 340 BHP and Simon Chose the run which was the smoothest which was 336 BHP . He told me that by raising the boost a little it would make over 350 BHP but I was very happy with the results I already had
He took it out for a road test and told me that it was surprisingly quick, I think this is because its a spec D and nobody expects it to go as well as a normal sti
the ppp on the subaru is crap i just sold a classic with a Andy.f remap and just picked up my sti with ppp yesterday and must say the power delivery was sh1t after having a remap car the sti needs a remap when you have that done it shows how a subaru should pull away the delivery of power is like being hit with a hammer mines is booked in already.

JGM fancy a session in sunny Wiltshire? To be honest I have also asked the competition (Bob) last week, but had no response, so the opportunity is open to you to if you have time?
