Brakes are horrible in the snow. So don't think you can go faster than everyone else due to your AWD. The only advantage (on normal tyres at least) is the ease of getting up hills, moving away cleanly and being able to accelerate. But yeah, brakes = bad
well i think they are very good in the snow........... last year i still had my road tyres on and we had quite a bit of snow in yorkshire and i had no problems at all as long as you dont stamp on the brakes youll be fine.
i suppose it all depends on what kind of driver you are if you think there good or not

mine was great, got me everywhere. never once got stuck. got to laugh at lots of people in pretend 4x4's like qashquis and touregs ect getting very stuck on sliding on hills, i was sat with the big boys in there rangerovers trundeling along. standard re050 tyres too
They are awesome in the snow. Good on ice too. But be warned nothing likes to stop on ice. In France last year with the huge dump the country had going over a mountain pass we passes 6 cars putting on snow chains, the scooby had no signs of traction loss at all. Well impressed with her. My classic wagon was even better in the snow than my newage.
As already posted these cars can lead you into a false sense of total control due to good traction and the fact that they are suppose to be bulletproof Rally cars. I tend to pull out the ABS fuse and just drive steadily like you would with any other car.
As said by those who know not the best in the snow but better than most front/rear wheel drive cars.
You really need winter/snow tyres to get the greatest benefit from a scoob in bad conditions, though in deep snow it may seem your doing well on summer tyres, hit any packed stuff and your sliding as much as anyone else is!
Newly passed and was my first car when the snow hit. I was overtaking and driving really fast lol. It was roughly then that I decided I found my type of car lmaooo.
Tell me Im not reading this! Im guessing here that you are 22 years of age, consider acting your age, and think about other road user next time you fancy putting everyone around you at risk. Overtaking in snow as a junior driver is not a laughing matter.
I have 14 years driving experience and I find that each winter is challanging as the conditions can vary so much. The same road with the same amout of snow fall each year will likely differ in driving conditions due to freeze temp, wind chill and changes in your car.
I found that the extra lag in boost with the GT30 (400rpm over the VF35) actually helped in the snow as I wasnt boosting as early which meant I could maintain momentum in the same gear for longer without surge thus wheel spin.
Rather embarrassingly got my scoob stuck on RAF Scampton last year, all four wheels spinning ! It is lowered though and got beached on the solid snow in the middle of the road, beware all lowered scoobs !! Other than that it was great but can lull you into a false sense of security !
i got my new scoob (03) for the snow and ofcourse the fun in the dry warm summer. Live at the top of a hill from all directions so last year our 2 FWD cars could leave the house but not get back!!
This year I am buying some michelin snow chains for the GFs car and thought I should just cut to the chase and get a scoob..

To all those commenting ref the abs.. ofcourse its a problem in the snow, worse than non abs ofcourse, but remember to use engine braking and also if you pump the brake pedal as teh abs is coming in then you can slightly improve on the standard abs performance.
Driving hard on snowy roads is a fools game and one that will guarentee needing a new scoob in the spring imho...
mine was great in snow, no one could get out my street for literally 2 weeks, apartf from me.
but as said, only good for traction when pulling away, and uphill, the rest is same as any other car, hit brakes hard, you will start to slide - until you hit something or naturally stop if your lucky lol
