Should be fine as standard cars, modded ones seem to struggle at about 400hp though afaik. Personally I prefer the Jap 2 litre rather than the 2.5 ...

the above answer about hg failure is what would put me off a uk car.
the my05 blob is the same spec but without the 2.5 .
if you really want a hawk get a jdm as they still have 2.0 but with twin scroll turbos.
36000 miles and a £1800 repair job.
luckily warranted but how long will it last??

Hawkeye STI. No contest. If you are worried about things going wrong why would you be looking at an Audi. In my opinion Subaru is a better marque than Audi in every way except cabin materials.

Mine is an 07 car. I believe the 06 cars were more prone to hg problems but it is fair to say some 07's have had it to. Saying that i know of some 2 litre car blowing hg too. I blame it on head studs.

Hi Chopperman your is still low millage I hope your luck is better than mine.I was told by a few people that the headgaskets go because of the cylinder walls heating up and cooling down. The walls on the 2.5 are thiner than the 2.0 as well which does not help. But like you say they do fail on the 2.0 as well.

i have a hawk sti running 370hp, honestly the engine isnt as weak as you'd imagine.
It certainly isnt the strongest out there for big builds and 370 is on the edge of the standard pistons but like most things, you will only hear the bad things on the nets.
It has tons of torque which is nice, but if youre after mega hp, then the 2.0 is stronger

Thats interesting mate. I was under the impression its due to cylinder pressure lifting the heads due to the size of the pistons. With my motorbike tuning experience i put this down to cylinder stud stretch.
While having mine mapped it was noted that the boost pressure at higher revs dropped from 1.4 bar to 1.0 bar to reduce this cylinder pressure that lifts the heads. Im sure a set of 11mm quality studs will solve the problem but im all ears if someone experienced knows different.

Im just after a minter really. I want something low mileage, standard that will keep up with most things on the road(obv not exotic stuff!!) I really dont wanna go tuning the nuts off it, my days of nailing it round are behind me, but i still like to play!!

Have a look at Bob Rawls thread and what he has done to his engine its inresting.Bigger or stronger head bolts will help. When mine went it was pushing warter into expanshion bottle and then it would air lock as it had pushed too much warter out to suck back in.But like you say it was only on boost.

Dont worry mate, a 2.5 hawk sti is a quick car. Sport cat panel filter and a good map will surprise you. Map for torque and its an awesome road car. Im running 433 ft/lb torque, thats enough to push you into the seat !

get a jdm version and have no reliability issues and get a few more toys thrown into the bargain.
the 2.5 is more prone to hg failure its a fact, research it on the net.
im sure not all go but its a known issue that doesnt exist on the 2.0
