Default mmmm buyeye STi prodrive v Corsa VXR Not happy :(

Well since buying my car it does not feel as quick as it should be. So i asked a friend who has standard corsa vxr to help me out.
Worrying thing is rolling start and from standing still i lost

Before people say it driver we both race on track with our track cars and do close times. In my old astra coupe(282 BHP) i smashed corsa vxr, i could not even over take it in my scooby today.

Anyone local in newport/cwmbran area i meet up who knows there stuff.

Bloody corsa only 190 bhp and there not even that light

If it beat you from a stand still = your car is proper f**ked.

Your Bugeye sti maybe an GX with a sti livery?
Or it is fooked...
Either way, a real Bugeye Sti should be doing low 5s to 60....and the Corsa VxR is in the mid 6s...so, from any angle, you should have destroyed it!
You need to get it checked out a.s.a.p!

It is a real STI Prodrive, it not fooked, engine sounds sweet. Got feeling it something small, why i want someone who knows these cars to have little look. Car has full subaru history, no knocking or banging nothing. not slipping or anything

As stated I'd smash it on a rolling road.

Something adrift by there bud, don't get me wrong the corsa's are a nippy little car but shouldn't be having the legs on your Sti, no way

My mates corsa is 226bhp and to be fair goes quite well for what it is, and up against a wrx blob with just a cat back exhaust was near enough stuck to the rear of it, the scoob did edge it but not by much and that was standing start, so a rolling start may have been a different story, but that VXR has a few mods done to it and was only up against a wrx, so for your Sti to be struggling to have the legs on a less powered VXR something has to be up somewhere, not loosing boost somehow are you? Got a gauge plumbed in?

Don't Impreza's lose boost through the 'Y' pipe at times? Heard they can crack. Something is definitely not right with it tho.

I know what the problem is.....Your right foot is not heavy enough!!

Launch the car at 4.5k dump the clutch and hold on for dear life....It's 4wd for gods sake you should be destroying 2wd cars in the wet or dry.

Did you leave the handbrake on?

turbo lag might be a factor no? im running 315bhp in my wagon on a td05 and it doesnt pull hard until 3300 rpm so if you were caught unaware off boost im guessing he,d get away.

They were both in second at 3000rpm so should have left the vxr for dead I reckon!!

Stock corsa vxr 162 BHP per ton
Stock 2002 STI Prodrive 179 BHP per ton

So not that much in it in the real world.

Figures quoted from performance-car-guide.co.uk.

2wd in the corsa/4wd in the scoob = more transmission loss too, so as frayz says very little in it in the real world.

From a standing start you should be killing the corsa off the line though.. unless your bogging down on launch etc etc.

check boost leaks, binding brakes can cause u to loose power and torque, id say get andy carr or bab rawle on it, they will restore any lost poke, with great effect i might add. andy carr is north, bob rawle south. bob did mine 10/10 didnt realize my car could do that. but clutch time now as standard one nearly finished. must be that extra 40 hp ontop of the already 312 and torque is up by 30 now 330. i raced the same car and a plug went on me. have to say he thrashed the life out of hes motor. couldnt keep up though. ha ha ha he did well in 1st and 2nd but 3rd i used mirror and could see headlights away in distance. id say just get a good mapper on case.

Sounds like old vs new to me. Bugs are quite old now and most are quite high mileage. Over the years as the mileage racks up a few horses tend to escape the stable.

A bug sti running properly should not be losing to a corsa vxr especially from a standing start.
I would think you have a slight issue, maybe a boost leak. Check how much boost your car is making (fit a gauge if you haven't already) and then report back here.

Corsa vxr is little over 150bhp per ton, impreza is as you say circa 180 but with alot more torque.

189bhp and 1223kg with just 170ftlb torque. Whichever way you look at it or calculate it a corsa should not be pulling away from a impreza sti of any shape or size.

Dont get me wrong, modern cars are getting very quick, especially these bloody diesels but they are also getting heavy. A bug sti is still a quick car if running well and it takes something fairly special to pull away from one and something very special to have one off the line.

I don't know if my post will help this thread, but today a V8 Supercharged Range Rover every so slightly pulled away from my STI from 80 to 120ish (kph of course ), the stats suggest that while he absolutely nailed me for torque I should have dropped him in a straight line. Now his Range Rover could easily have been remapped or modded, however I have found in the real world there is very little difference between sporty vehicles, where it be Focus STs, VXRs, Ranger Rover Sports, big BMWs etc etc.
