There does seem to be some bs going on here! I'm 32 and live in nice area etc £960 for hatch all mods ( that's a lot of mods lol) and £600 for type r both garaged trackers etc that's with aplan specialist department and they won't even quote you if you under 30. Prev car history is extensive with plenty high powers cars! Sat with a insurance brooker at the mo and her opinion is you youngsters are talking bs or you are defo not correctly insured! So be careful lads because insurance just love to wriggle when it comes down to it lol

Im 32, 8 years ncb a no fault claim 2 years ago and 6000 mile policy for my uk300 is just over £300 fc! With £0 excess i live in a small quiet village too, so that helps.
Quote for a 55 plate blob sti was about £450, but i couldnt afford the sti lol
Those prices were off compare the market, and im insured with first choice insurance.
Postcode has a massive part to play, then age, milage, ncb etc etc etc.
And did you know that saying you will park the car in a garage will actually put up the insurance by typically £30, as the garage could collapse!
My old 3dr was 400bhp fully stripped and caged and was £550 to insure with trinity lane insurance. And when that was wrote off they eventually paid out.

Also some of the guys with the internet/direct insurers should work out how much they pay after DD charges, and if they have checked the small print to see if theft cover is excluded unless a tracker is fitted, aswell as checking the total excess rather than the excess thet they initially see when doing the quote.

I have given up trying to understand insurers!
Maybe it's because performance cars are difficult ones for them to manage. My advice for anyone below 25 is not to bother with something fast unless they have a large disposable income. If you're under 23 and you manage then fair play to you but I'd imagine you're telling a porkie somewhere or you're not the listed first driver or owner of the vehicle.
I've always kept a policy with Admiral because they're generally the cheapest and give me a decent three figure excess. Excellent customer service too.
In 2008 cost me between 550 and 800 a year to insure a new 997 Carrera S in Blackpool and Preston and 900 a year to insure my Spec D in at the same locations. It went up massively in Birmingham (no surprise being so close to Kingstanding at the base of Sutton Coldfield) but it was more than that (1100) to insure a Clio Cup that I replaced it with. Then my Blob STi cost me 675 at that address but was going to cost me 1800 when I moved back near Preston. Bearing in mind my no claims have been increasing in years and I'm approaching 30. But the Cosworth is just over 1000... about one third of what specialist insurer A-Plan could offer.
Currently trying to arrange insurance for a Leggy. Declined by Keith Michaels. 620-odd through One Call

Well my excess is £500 I'm the policy holder and have 2 named drivers on my policy (mum and dad) and mines £1300 for a 21year old lad that's no bs, must admit I was surprised when it came through I snapped it up, now I'm 22 and 4ncb it's dropped to £900 so can't complain

Find it hilarious how all the oldies (You called us youngun's!) are.. perhaps a little jealous at how we can get insurance for so little (relative to our age)
I will happily put a screenshot up of a quote for me. Luton postcode, 21 years of age, 3 years driving experience, 3 years NCB, father and uncle named drivers, me as main driver and policy holder.
2003 Impreza WRX STi (and insured as one) with single modification declared (exhaust).
Insured with Elephant, Fully comp. Small print read, £500 voluntary excess and 250 (off the top of my head, but not far off) mandatory.
Looks like the specialist insurers are going to have to up their game

One insurer we deal with had an interesting reason as to why they stopped insuring 21/22 year olds on Subaru's and Evo's.
They found over half the youngsters sold their Jap cars less than 6 months after setting the policy up, as they didn't realise how much they cost to run, and replaced them with 'normal' cars and hot hatches.
They then had a huge amount of claims come in on the cars, and when looking at the claims forms it seems the customers were trying to drive the new car like the Impreza/Evo and ended up writing them off.
And that's the reason they stopped insuring them.

For a lot of people all they consider is the price.

Got an excellent quote on confused.com. Phoned up the insurance company (that will remain nameless) to check the price was right.....turned out that it involved having a black box in my car to check the mileage and also didnt cover me to drive other peoples cars. If I went over my estimated mileage, I'd be fined. I didn't want to have to own a car that I was worried about covering mileage in, so I went with someone else in the end!
Price on confused......£565 per year fully comp with limited mileage and black box recording
Actual price without black black box and an extra 2000 miles per year but still without being able to drive other people's cars.....£967!!!

Just trying to get back into a Scoob now (possibly a wagon, but more likely a Legacy SpecB Estate) . . . when I actually have the time to travel and look at cars in between work and childcare!
Insurance will hurt though . . . paying £79 a year fully comp for my 944 at the moment . . .
