Yep and GM who part own/share platforms and technology with Subaru already have a 2.0 litre sequential turbo diesel that puts out around 220bhp and 500NM with 90% of the torque available from 1200rpm. Unfortunatly it's running around in Vectra's at the moment.

Subaru have a big problem using flat engines but they already have the latest technology avialable to them.

I can only see diesel becoming more wide spread, it has greater thermal efficiency than petrol so you should always get more power for the fuel used. The efficiency gap is even wider on cold engines or light throttle loads.

The only drawback is the purchase price which also should come down as the technology moves forward and the number of units made increases.
