Speak to them and say if they wont allow it you want to put your contract on the lowest possible tarrif and will let a run down with a view to a move once it is done.
They should let you do it without that threat though. what they will say though is that your new contract will run from the end of the current one. they may also try and get you to pay a bit extra for the phone.
