I'm currently looking at getting a replacement turbo for my td04 and really don't know what will best suit the 2.5ltr for my needs.

I mainly use the car for commuting and running about in but also do a few track days a year and at least one trip to the Nurburgring per year.

I've been looking at the obvious choices like the vf35, vf43 and vf48 but it seems difficult to find a good one at a reasonable price.

Recently ive been seeing a lot of info on the Kinugawa range of turbo's, they seem good value and get decent reviews.
I was looking at either the td05 16g or the td05 18g, both with 8cm hotsides to try and avoid boost creep.

I don't really want to run it on its limit of about 350hp, would rather have a slightly more conservative tune and keep things slightly safer.
Was going to cap boost around 1.2-1.25 bar of boost and maybe 320-330hp.

My current spec is:

td04
Japspeed fmic
3" decat tapering to a 2.5" system with prodrive back box
HRC 290lph fuel pump
3 port boost controller
Aluminium uprated radiator
Colder grade plugs

From what ive read the 16g should get me the power I want but does the 18g suit the 2.5 better?
How will they differ in feel when coming on boost and throughout the rev range?

Have you thought about the Scoobyclinic SC36 ? Supposed to be as good as the VF which is hard to find secondhand and very expensive new !

Its easy to find vf43 at decent price and milage and it will give you what you want.
You will need FPR or bigger injectors and a remap offcourse

The SC36 billet would be the perfect turbo but its around £1000 new, wasn't looking at spending that kind of money to be honest.

If I can get a decent vf35, vf43, or 48 for around £350 it would be a good uprade for not silly money.

Would be good to hear from someone who has had a td05 16g or 18g on a 2.5.

I haven't seen any vf43's for sale recently only vf35's and they all seem to be off high mileage cars. Maybe im looking in the wrong places!

Didn't think I would need a FPR or bigger injectors than the standard 550's on hawks to run 330-350hp?

VF43 will be 350 pounds for sure.Did you post in wanted section?
Are you sure WRX has 550 cc injectors?

Just bought a Harvey Smith td05 18g off a member on here, hopefully if I run it at about 1.2 bar it should give me the results im after without putting too much stress on the engine.

Im sure the hawkeye wrx's and sti's come with 550's as standard, better check to make sure now!

STIs have 565cc blue injectors......yeah do check that.
18g should be good for 360+........5speed box from hawk is better but still cross fingers you wont strip any teeth:P

Should feel very different to the td04, will be nice to have a lot more pull topend rather than running out of puff like it does now.

Going to ask to my mapper to keep it safe, not really worried about pub figures.

Agreed - I've heard they don't need bigger injectors. Do they have the STI ones as standard?

They're good for the power. I was told by Duncan Racedynamix (who runs a hawkeye) that the 5 speed is fine for 300+ bhp. He only knows of one person who stripped first gear and that was because he tested is launch control at every set of lights for a FULL YEAR.....

Hopefully it will hold up, im not going to be launching it or flat shifting.
It will have an easy-ish life day to day, just hope its ok on track.

Im going to port my standard headers/up pipe and also heat wrap them as my heatshields rattle at the minute and its doing my head in!

Looking forward to getting the turbo fitted and all mapped up now, hopefully ill be able to get a track day in before the weather turns.

I'd be surprised if most of the usual breakers on here don't have a VF43 going for sensible money!

I spoke to a couple of breakers on here and neither had a vf35, vf43 or 48.
Matty5 told me as soon as they come in they are straight out the door again.

Glad I got the td05 18g in the end though, think it should suit the 2.5 well.

Matty has a VF35 for sale now. They work very well on the 2.5s.

I have Hawkeye WRX 565cc injectors on my Blobeye WRX.....

So the Hawkeye WRX and STI both have the same 565cc injectors then, should be plenty enough fuel for the power im going to run then.

Going to change the fuel filter in the tank as well, don't think thats ever been changed.
Not cheap at around £70 though!
