Default What exactly is a chassis fan?

I'm not very good with computers, so I'll ask here.

We've just bought a new graphics card and it mentions something about a chassis fan. What exactly is it/how is different to just a normal fan?

Thanks in advance.

Chassis and normal fan are same, difference between normal and Chassis fan is only mounting and size.

Which Graphic card you are bought?

Aha,you have fanless GPU(graphic card).

And which chassis/case you have?
If you could buy 80mm/120mm fan which cost from £5-£45 and fit in you case on side, this help cool your GPU.

To clarify, Lisa hasn't got a clue about computers, she knows more about Subaru's, and I'm not much better.

The only fan in my PC is the one above the CPU heatsink, obviously there should be a fan in the PSU.

No idea mate, only thing on the front of the case is TrendSonic. Means nothing to us.

The Mobo is, I think, quite an old design - how would I power an additional fan?

This is the MoBo fitted,

Gpu might generate some heat so you may need a fan fitted on the case somewhere if there is not one already fitted to get rid of some heat

Hi there
you can power fan via MOLEX 4pin if you have free one,if not you can buy extension.

But have look if you can mount Fan on side window

Mine has a 200mm fan in the top/front and a 120mm fan at the rear, does yours have a "cut out" ready to take a fan ?

dunx

P.S. if it does nip to PCworld and buy one to fit !

There are two Fan headers on that Motherboard, the one on the right will more than likely be for the CPU Fan, and the one on the left should be the Chassis fan header.

No. Guess I'll have to get a new case and swap stuff over?

Thanks for that.

There's only a small grille area on the back of my case, will take a pic later.

My case has 6 fans It was like a hairdryer when I first built it. Now whisper quiet thanks to a T-balancer controller (fully automatic...and mappable ).

If you find the new fan is too noisy at 12volts, it can be connected to a Molex connector between the +5v (red) and +12v (yellow) rails to get 7 volts, which usually is plenty enough to keep things cool, whilst massively reducing noise.

Some motherboards have fans speed contriol for case fans on the actual board itself, but not always.

I hate noisy computers.

They go from 40mm through 60/80/90/100/120/140/etc.

Even a new case may not have more than one fan, but it may not need more than that, two is good IMHO, one to feed cold air in, and one to extract hot air out !

HTH

dunx

P.S, QuietPC have loads of nice kit, and they also have some useful FAQ's on the site IIRC

Sorted.

120mm fan fitted to the side panel, and an 80mm fan on the back.

They both seem to be working and only cost £10 for the pair.

As it turns out, the big one seems to be working, but the little one isn't. Any ideas how to power the smaller fan?

Think we have that connector, but (and remember we're not very wise), where does it plug in?

We have the large fan plugged into the slot on the left of the pic Leuven posted, but the right circled slot is where the cpu fan plugs in.

Don't try unplug CPU fan, this will cause more problems and may will end in failure of CPU.

If you are bought fans on these fans are usually these Molex 4pins if not you have small 3 pin,not sure if i don't have one free extension cable,if yes i will PM you and send you for free.

If not i don't have, you can buy something like this
