Looks like the Owen to United is happening. Smack a bit of desperation. I guess if you try look at the positives he's still only 29 and has a lot to prove after his Newcastle spell. There's also the fact it's a world cup year at the end of the season
Barca have allegedly made Fabregas their no1 summer signing. Bye Cesc! who the hell would want to play for Arsenal at the moment when they could play at the highest level at Barca? Every player that has been a transfer target of Real or Barca that have pledged their future to Arsenal have then gone and left the club. Henry and Vieira being the two most obvious examples.
Owen's still a great player, but will never be fully fit. He needs to be treated with kid gloves and would only be useful for the odd 20-30 mins of competitive football each game if you're lucky. Not that that's a bad thing; as he can come on and get goals when you most need them.
If Rafa had been signing him the media would say it was desperation; as it may be Fergie they'll make it out to be a masterstroke.
I'm still a little bitter over the way he left for Real and also at his potential move down the M62. But as somone else put it; its never particularly nice to see one of your ex's going out with some knobhead, even if you did split up nearly 5 years ago. But then you remember who your new bird is and then you realise you don't give a fcuk anymore
I would say if he can get 10-15 goals coming on as a sub in the majority of games, at £50k a week is better value than most Prem strikers including Tevez and of course is free. I believe that if he could stay fit he would score goals for any of the top 4, when there is good players around you you enjoy it more and get more chances. It must have been gutting to play in a Newcastle team as poor as that.
Time will tell if its a good deal, and the key is his fitness as i'm sure you'll all agree. If he still has the quality i'm sure Fergie can get it out of him.

i think its a good signing
as long as we can keep him fit i think he will do well at united, im looking forward to see him play in our side as he will get a lot of chances and if you put them on a plate for him he will put them away
considering how it felt to be kicked in the b0llocks by benzema the other day i feel much better now
its a better move for owen than it is united, cant see him offering any more than 15 goals but at the end of the day he is free and if you do get him fit and keep him fit then he may go on to reclaim his old form, i couldnt give a toss about him since he left us as its all be down hill till now

it is a win win situation
he will try his hardest to prove all his doubters and try to get back into the england side
united have paid fcuk all for him and pay him as much as wes brown
i think that with newcastle they tried to rush him back to fitness which did him more harm than good, with united that wouldnt happen however we will see at the end of the season how it pans out.
it doesnt matter anyway as i will enjoy watching united more next season as the greasy one is no longer here

With all due respect I think the set up at United is more likely to keep him fit, hungry and happy than the set up he has just left.
I'm happy
I think the comparisson to Fowler is unfair, Fowler was never the same after his injury during his first spell at LFC and he never really gave a shit about football after that, did nothing for any of the clubs he played for, where as Owen deseperately wants to get back to playing at the highest level which includes England.
Whereas Fowler is training down one of my local parks, seriously he was down there on tuesday, the Aussie season starts in 6 weeks and for some reason his team was down in Sydney, he's on a two year contract for North Queensland Fury and about 2 stone over weight, maybe he realises there are a lot of cheap properties in QLD and he intends to make a killing, he can't be here for the footbal, the AFL is comparable with Division 1 imo and I have only managed to stomach 15 minutes of it before turning off, the MLS is better FFS !! Fowler is what's know here as a "Marquee" player, each team is allowed one Marquee player who gets paid way more than the others....

He'll score a goal or two i think.
Thats it though, he doesn't bring any other dimension to the team.
He won't pressurise opposition defences.
Good luck to him, he is a great professional. I for one wouldn't ever dream of booing him.

Reason: Typo/spelling error
If we lose him and its not looking good, we will take a backwards leap in regard to challenging for the title.
Last season he was the most consistent player we had. In my view he was the fulcrum of the team.
For me he is irreplaceable. I will be sick as, a sick person who's team have lost one of their best players if he leaves.

Little Carlito
Now I know why he had the dummy in his mouth
Just spat it out
"What I want to do next season is score against United. I promise I will not celebrate in front of the United fans but I will shout in Ferguson's face.
"You can be sure of that - and it will be one of the most beautiful things I have done in football."
PMSL, I knew he wasn't the brightest but even that surprised me

Your correct there Ash1, if i remember correctly the season MO departed for Spain, he gave no effort for the team whatsoever.
He turned up and got payed, he had already left but he was still crossing the line wearing the Liver Bird.
Nobody is perfect though, i wish him well, not when playing for the darkside though.
He won't replace the diving Portugese whinger or the Grotesquely ugly low intelligenced dwarf though. (Tevez, Rooney is still there and not a dwarf).
Where are the goals coming from? Rooney, Berba and MO! Sounds like a trio from the black and white film era!...
I really don't see the issue over Owen. It's a zero risk gamble for United. If it pays off they have a proven goalscorer for free and if he fails they will flog him for a couple of mil and get any money spent on wages back. Still maybe fergie should have tried to get n'gog instead
As for this proposed £40 mil for Terry.... snap their hands off! that's a right result for an average defender.
