KYB ultras & Teins a great alternative.
Just had a set of KYB ultra SR struts and Tein springs fitted to my STI 7, and what a great alternative to coilovers this set up is. My original STI kyb struts had started to crash a bit so was looking to go down the coilover route but didin't want anything thing too harsh or mega bucks tbh. Just wanted something a tad firmer and lower than the prodrive springs I had on and after doing a little research came up with above. As they were KYB I knew there'd be no issues replacing so went for it. Took my garage 2.5 hrs to fit and the car not only looks better but feels dead smooth and very stable, and not a lot of roll either. The struts and springs cost me £560 from camskill in cumbria, great set of blokes very helpful & £10 p+p which for what I've got is pretty good value.
So, if you're looking for a good value suspension kit and great quaility too then you should seriously look at he above. Will post pics soon.
I looked into this as well, but after much research on mostly american subaru forums It became aparent that the valving on the kyb ultras caused issues.
The main complaint was a rather unnerving bouncing which some said was so bad as to be dangerous.
went for coilovers in the end.
on my sti i have fitted ultra sr struts, Sti pink springs and group N top mounts.
Previously I had Megan Racing coilovers. Kyb and sti pinks are better for street use
