Default Subaru V Storm Track/Test day.

Just thought I would let you know that I've been invited to take part in a track/test day of the new Subaru powered V Storm WR-3 next Wednesday.
I've been following development of this car since first seeing one around two years ago at a kit car show. Early cars have been bike engine powered but SDR announced a little while back that they were developing a Subaru powered version
I first got to see the Subaru version in Exeter a few weeks back and the car looks very promising and a lot of fun

Should be a great day and I'll take a few pic's and post them up but until then you can have a look here.

Cant wait for tomorrow and it looks like it might be a reasonable day weather wise.
Going up in the Type R as she could do with a run and I've missed not being behind the wheel

Had a great day and got to try all 3 powered versions.
I was on the road at 5.15 this morning and got back home around 6 so a long day. The weather was dry but the track was well wet and slippery which made for some interesting moments!!
I'll post up my thoughts and some pic's tomorrow its been a long one

Daz, I've not put a deposit down and I did not break one either, it just happened to break when I was driving

Some photo's for you.

I was able to go out in 3 cars, all the cars share the same chassis but all have different power plants. Aprilla, Kawasaki and Subaru.
The factory at the moment offer two engine types the other engine (Kawasaki) was installed by a customer.

All engine types offer a different feel, the Aprilla V twin is smooth and has quite a lot of torque, the Kawasaki is a 4 pot race engine very high revving and frantic. The Subaru engine installed was a Jap spec STI in standard trim so around 280bhp
All cars have a sub 3 seconds 0-60

The track was damp and greasy and the cars were twitchy to say the least, out of a hairpin bend in second you had to feed in the power otherwise over steer was the order of the daythe Subaru would light up the rear wheels even after changing up into 3rd
One of the drivers who has done a few track days said that the levels of grip and cornering in the dry were nothing short of staggering.
The Subaru car weighs in at under 600kilos and that includes a driver and fuel. the bike engine cars are a fair bit lighter than that.
The central driving position is wonderful its just like being in a race car.The cars can carry two rear passengers but its a little cramped as you would expect.

Minus points:-
The gear linkage on the Subaru need a little more work to get it crisp and a replacement engine cover to improve cooling and charge temp is on the way. Both items will be sorted very soon.
The bike engine cars have no reverse gear but the new IVA regs state that all cars must have a reverse gear, this is under development as we speak for any future builds.
The cars are massive fun and I had a brill time the ultimate toy I would say

They look a great bit of kit Kev Similar to the Ariel atom. Wonder what a tuned STI lump would be like in one

Not my cup of tea i'm afraid.

Looks too cold and noisey for my liking. What happens when it rains = you get fooking wet. I bet you can't hear anything thats on the wireless either.

I'll stick with my white monster

I think the Atom offers a more raw driving experience which I'd love to sample. However the cost of an Atom means I'm realistically never going to be able to afford one as a 2nd car (used mainly as a track day car).

The Storm is a little cheaper and therefore offers the same bang for less buck, I'd love to own and STi powered Storm just for track day work.

Kev, I'm green with envy. I'd love to have had the opportunity to drive these 3 beasts, Christmas came early eh

I'm afraid you got to treat it like a bike Danny and dress accordingly.
Trust me you would not need a radio the car is huge fun on its own.
I'm with you a heater, and a some sort of roof is a must. I think I'd have to have one in my top ten garage

I've just spotted these machines in a track racing mag I get. Look superb, and much cheaper than the Atom.

They should have ironed out the small glitches in them now and as you say they look superb. An Sti version should be quite something
In this weather I can't even thing about an open cockpit!!!

Scooby 4 pots on the front and about 1/2 the weight so no issues with the brakes.
I'll have mine with a heater
