know a garage round Leeds that'll.....
|
|
...fit brake pads that I supply?
Phoned a few places and they won't have anything to do with it. I've got some Ferodo DS2500s on the way and the prospect of fitting them myself is a bit on the scary side

Give this guy a ring and say Daz, Danny's mate from The Yorkshire Post recommended him
Chris Booth
Tel. 0113 2443544
Mob. 07765 186188
He does work on scooby stuff for his mate and he also owns a racing legacy which he's done his self.
Should be a reasonable price.

Simon, they really couldn't be much easier.
Remove locator shim, retaining clip and then the pins. Remove top from fluid res. Use adjustable pliers to remove pads and push back pistons. Insert new pads, replace pins, clip and shim. 20 minutes a side including wheel removal.
Or contact the Oracle

Did you manage to get hold of the Oracle Dave?
He can be a bit busy sometimes.

More chance with Ceefax...
Seriously, Simon, it's not difficult to change a set of pads
Possibly garages won't have anything to do with it as
a) they haven't sold you the pads, and
b) they haven't supplied the pads so won't take the risk of you supplying incorrect friction materials leading to problems after they've fitted them / you suing them etc
Partly it's money / partly EU type approval rules / partly the modern trend of sue the ar*e of anyone who get's a hair out of place etc

Yep I would like to do them myself for the convenience factor as I've got a bit on at the mo and would ideally like them on before I go and take her racing AROUND the lakes next week. Although I need to weigh this up with the chances of going IN the Lakes if I screw up

Er ok. Think I'm there with shims, clips and pins. "top from fluid res" - this is the cap on the calipers, yes? Not too sure what you mean by pistons.
Having seen my wheel removing abilities t'other week I'm suprised you have that much confidence in me ....although I had them off in double time this weekend. Hurrah.
....is Paul the man to speak to re the Oracle then?!

Paul,
He was reluctant to do it as the car is still in warranty So it's going to the 'Clinic in 2 weeks.
Simon, the fluid reservoir is under the bonnet, bright yellow cap. Shown here to the left of the I/C against the strut turret and below the strut brace...
The pistons are what push the pad onto the disc. If you push the pads back whilst still in place (reservoir top removed ) it will push all the pistons back in evenly, then remove the pads and put new ones in.
How's it sounding, DV any louder ?

It's sounding mint, although the girlfriend says "It sounds like an old banger"?!?!?!
I did think the "res" was the reservoir under the bonnet but couldn't see the correlation with applying new brake pads!

If you don't remove the lid, when you try and push the pistons back in the fluid has nowhere to go and you'd never budge them 1mm.

Hmmm - took some clips off, pins were resisting so bottled it. Motosave said they'd do it "without a receipt", and it only cost me 15 quid so fair enough.....maybe next time I'll give it a more thorough go.

Yep it's definetly something I'd prefer to do myself....I had dreadful visions of braking (no pun intended) my lovely Brembos hammering the pins out so thought better of it on this occassion!
Consider your statement as volunteering fro the next time the pads have been worn down again......3 weeks ok
