So just got my first Scooby - Pics up tomorrow - tyres near to needing change - currently Bridgestone Potenza - weird looking things as they look like hand cut slicks - but seem to grip quite well (so far) what would you all recommend as best (road use only, must grip well in wet) replacement?
Budget limited as car cost me all savings and left kidney - needs whells refurbed and new back brake pads (advice on non Brembo option? or Brembo at sensible px)

With regards to tyres, vredestein ultrac sessantas are my choice for a road car, goodyear eagle f1 are also very good. Speak with alyn above or godspeed for brake advice, many options and budgets to choose from.

I went for the Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres. No better than the others in the dry, but in the wet they are light years ahead of many. Before I had Toyos which were great until it rained, at which point they had about much grip as a trolley.

In the Eagle F1's? What do you think of them? I need 4 new tyres and have spent so long deciding now that the ones on it are probably illegal.

I was going to just choose non XL because
1) cant find an yXL ones
2) what actually is the difference? is it reinforced tyre walls?

OK I have been enlightened - apparently the XL tyre has more steel banding in the walls aimed at far heavier cars like big Mercs and BMW's - not need on STi according to 2 out of 3 tyre companies as firmer ride also. (£rd tyre company said didnt have a clue mate - wont be going there)

So having them done this weekend -will let you know

So I picked it up last night - wheels just been refurbed and new Goodyear F1 (nonXL) it was raining and given i have hardly driven car at all since getting it - thought was lots of road noise on way home - but t his may just be my imagination and being knackered after a **** day - longer journey tomorrow morning to deliver for brakes being done - so I wiull update
Wide range of prices I found for these tyres - Highest £110 incl fitting cheapest £95 - I paid £96 because £95 lot were rude and clueless.

I think the impreza has lots of road noise too. Not used to it either. Glad you went for F1's, they are supposed to be great tyres and can't wait to get some.
I went to ASP for my brakes and oils. ASP really know their stuff and their prices are mega competitive - really nice guy too. If you're ever stuck and don't know what you need, give him a call and he'll sort you out. More than not he usually ships better quality stuff at cheaper prices as well.
Let me know how you get on with that road noise issue. It may get better when the tyres wear in? Did you get your geo setup again?

I think you are right - they are noisy by nature it had Potenza tyres on before - they seemed less so- but so hard to tell - they head plenty of tread left but had been on car for 6 years and perished in places (crazed over) also two had huge chunks out of the tyre wall.
I am having wheels aligned etc on Saturday morning as they didnt have hte equipment for the full 4wd rear & front adjustment at this place.
I gather Subaru's have camber and toe adj on both axles??? so better to get it right. Also as having brakes done tomorrow wanted it to be done after wheels had been on and off again.
You are right they probably do need a bit of bedding in - thx for contact I will try him if need anything more - piggy bank runs dry after this for now !

only rear toe adjustment as std, no rear camber adjust although there are a few "tricks" we use to get it balanced

OK - Full in/out and engine valet complete - Valetmagic of Cambereley who look after my Dad's GT-R - simply great job and great value.
Tyres have now done about 25 miles and quietened down alot - handling is amazing - given I am still getting used to fierce understeer and no traction etc -
Major service due now - going to Len at Subaru4U on many recommendations - cant get done until Sep 2nd as he so busy - tells you something good I guess.

I was going to get Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R when my rubbish tyres need replacing on my hawk. They are £211 EACH though!

That's a lot of dough - why are they so expensive - I can understand £25 between worst and best tyres but such a jump? Are they run flats or something?
I must say very pleased with Goodyear F1 100 miles in now

They're semi slick and I've got 18 inch OZ Racing alloys on mine. They're basically the same wheels that are on the RB320 but in gold.

Does anyone know where I can get any 235/40/18" Bridgestone Potenza re070's? I've got Goodyear f1's on my S204 at the minute but the side walls flex to much when you push them hard in the corners. I had RE070's on my GTR R35 and my JDM sti and they were amazing and had so much more grip than the F1's.

Just about to change from re070's to Goodyear F1's even though my Potenza's have loads of life in them, I just cant stand them. Too hard and too tramliney. I changed them on my last hawk for goodyears and there was a massive difference in the way it rides. Admittedly the ultimate grip wasn't as good but for 364 days of the year the goodyears are far nicer.
