jump in car, reverse it, press breaks it clunks, then drive to top of road and stop, it clunks, but then after the breaking is ok, until i stop and reverse, it clunks, then go forward it clunks, only does it like this, does not do it any other time, i thought it sounded like it was coming from front drivers caliper, so yesterday i took wheel off, caliper off, pads out, general dust clean and copper re-grease, put back together, drove up road and still the same, im bit baffled realy, been doing this for few weeks now, the breaks work fine, its a 2004 wrx sti, anyone got any ideas as to what it could be?
Sounds like the little "anti clunk shims" that go on the leading edge of the pads weren't put back in last time they were changed.
My pads now "clunk" too 'cos I couldn't get the shims back in (much too tight and caused pads to bind so left them out - they were a bit mangled anyway)
