Evening all, I have recently bought a nice set of 17's for my MY99. The tyres that were on them were less than perfect. I am about to purchase some Toyo T1R's that I have found for a great price (Camskill). I just want some opinions from any of you who are using them. I don't really want other options as the debate will go on and on and on
So the ones I intend to use are Toyo T1R Proxes 215 40R17 87 W XL TL.
Thanks in advance, Martin

£ for £ great tyres, some good deals about, they will take a while to bed in, I am a big fan of goodyears but have T1r`s set on mine as thats what it came with and they are ok.
Just had a set of t1r's arrive this morning , only £83 each for an 18 inch wheel, so they should be cheaper for 17's.
Plus the tread looks so much deeper than any other tyre.
T1R's are class dude.. had them on several of my cars and have always performed really well, especially in the wet. They have good wear rates and really strong side walls.

I asked a similar question when I was changing mine from Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's as I'd never been that impressed by em.
See the thread here
I was put off the Toyos by reports that they:
1. Wear quickly, and
2. Get very skitterish and scary when the tread is about 2/3 gone.
I went for Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas - cost me £208 (for two 18" 225/40's) delivered next day from Tyremen (Hull I think). They outclass the Goodyear in every way in the wet and dry - no sliding around - they just grip and grip.
I've done about 1200 miles on them now and I still can't believe how good they are.

Yeah I run the same. If you run aggressive geometry and drive the car hard if you run lower pressures you'll find the tread around the edges disappearing rapidly!
I wouldnt go for toyo's they dont last that long... i now go for Avon ZZ3's, give as much (or even more) grip as the toyo's in wet and dry and last a hell of a lot longer!
Thanks for all your replies. Are these tyre pressures correct 36f 34r? I have just let some air out of my budgets so the would handle better (they really are rubbish). They are now at 33f 30r and feel much better.

Good to hear, my new set of Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's arrived this morning. Looking forward to seeing how they compare to the T1R's i currently have

Got nothing bad to say about the Toyos, love them on my classic, but the Vreddy's are a proper quality tyre and I would buy them over the Toyos given the chance.

Bought them on your recommendation, so i'll blame you if i don't like them!!!

I haven't had Toyo's on mine Gary but I don't think you'll be disappointed mate - they're a great tyre.
Great tyre but I've found the GSD3's to be slightly better. Less road noise too!
You wont be disappointed though.
Mate, just out of interest how did you find them better?
And is your car modded or standard?
I have found the Vredenstein ride softer than the Goodyears and have noticed no difference in noise whatsoever.
However, the main difference is the grip.
Where the Goodyears would lose traction and start sliding around when for example, cornering aggressively around 50-60mph, the Vredensteins hold on and the car steers as you'd expect.
To me that says that the Vredensteins do what they're supposed to - sticking the car to the road. I found Goodyears just aren't up to the job if you drive the car more aggressively.
Seriously, I'd rate the Vredensteins to be at least 3 times better than the F1's in grip in wet and dry.
Interested to hear your take on it.

Sorry, slight mixup here. I meant that the GSD's were an upgrade to the Toyos.
I would have said the same for the Toyo's vs the Goodyears. The Goodyears just seem to hold that bit better when cornering hard and they don't seem to tramline quite as much when worn in.
Haven't tried the Vredestiens yet though. Due a new set of rubbers all round so might go for them...

Haha, explains it! Go with the Vredesteins mate, you won't be disappointed.
Afternoon, I don't like threads being left open ended so I just want you to know what I think of the T1R's. I had them fitted to my MY99 on Friday and it's now Sunday and I have done approx 50miles on them. I know they need time to bed in but so far I am really impressed. The grip is phenomenal and easily on par, or even slightly better than, my previous Michelins. It will probably be a few weeks before they completely wear in and I have had no wet weather use yet (it is summer so shouldn't be to long!). In my opinion these tyres are a bargain and seriously recommended

Where can I buy and get TR1s fitted in the Walsall/Birmingham?
Which Vredestein tyre do you guys recommend?
Forget the Toyos and go for the Vredesteins mate.
You want Ultrac Sessantas, mine are 18" 225/40's
cost £102 ea. online from 'tyremen'
trust me they're awesome; if u buy that size and then change yer mind I'll have 2 off ya!
What I'm surprised at is the original poster still went for Toyos, as they supposedly wear quick and are well skitterish when lower on tread. My neighbour works for a tyre wholesaler and he said the Toyos are popular because they're cheap, but performance wise he'd recommend Eagle F1 Asymmetrics (they don't stock Vredestein).
