Brake upgrade on a classic???

Hi folks, Does anyone know the best front brake upgrade for the classic waggon UK spec???

Got standard set up and could do with better stopping power

Is there a straight bolt on swap I could do from a newer scooby or something like that I could get from one being broken?

Sounds like you want some four pots from a late classic sti, or newage brembo's mate. Have a look in the for sale section, normally some floating about

Depends what year you have. IF you have a pre99, then you won't have 4 pots. Those will be a good upgrade for around the 170 - 250 mark. They are off all the Turbo models, excluding STi, from 99 onwards.

i have 98 uk classicfitted with k-sport 8 pot calipers ,330mm discs up front and subaru 2pots of a 2003 wrx with ds2500 pads and goodridge hoses both are great upgrades over standard just depends on your budget

subaru 4 pots with goodrige hoses and a decent fast road pad will be a decent upgrade from what you have now

Its budget related, if you have say 800 quid then look at High Performance Brakes - Supplying AP and Brembo brake kits for road and motorsport use for some nice solutions

or check out the group buy section.
If your budget is say 400 quid, then go for a 4 pot subaru set up, fast road pads and uprated front discs (294mm), these are for 16 inch wheels

I personally didnt see the point in spending half of what the car is worth on brakes and just went for EBC pads and discs on my '96 wagon. They are bedding in at the moment and I'll be off to the Nurburgring on Tuesday...hopefully the standard 2 pots and new discs/pads will do the job!

they really are not up for the job, the 4 pots are a vast improvement over them, and they are not exactly confidence inspiring

I'll be "sensible" driving as its my first trip so setting a fast time isnt even being considered. Gettin there and back safely, and having a good time is the order of the day.

Well I got back safely with both myself and the car in one piece! lol

EBC brakes and new front Toyos were well bedded in by the time I hit the track and didnt seem to have any problems. Only did 4 laps as it was my first time track experience and first time round the Nurburgring, but will get the brakes checked out to see what kind of punishment they received.

Saw plenty of crashes including a bike going over the barriers on my first passenger lap so my words of advise are simply:

Enjoy yourself but please drive carefully, sensibly and pay the track more than enough respect.

...depends on how much you use them I suppose, but yeah I can imagine not using the brakes so much as you learn the track and the lines more with experience. Even though I only did a few laps I would say that if you cook your brakes on there then its most likely that you'd have been going into the corners to fast to begin with but its better to be safe than sorry and I'm please I fitted new brakes before going.
