have just learnt my car which I thought was a wrx import (sold to me as one) isn't as it has engine codes of GC8FK8D and EJ20gnw6nd see: clues
however the speedo was using km/h (the speedo reads up to 300 M/H!!), so I'm not sure what my car is?
registration doc shows it as an import and it's on a w plate athough its an my98 according to the codes,
What have I got?

Easiest way to spot a UK spec car is the bright button on the center console, if it has one then its a uk car, if not then its an Import. (plus uk cars dont come with climate control, just bog standard a/c and that was an option on pre MY01 cars).
Oh and uk cars also have the headlight washers

Are you sure that chassis number is correct? where you have the K it should be a number (denoting either 2/4/5 for the ammount of doors)
Try here:- www.sidc.co.uk (faq)
GC8F48D 280 WRX 4 door
Is this more like your car?

yes the codes are correct thought I had a 4 and k wronmg but re-checked definately right, no bright button or headlamp washer, the original bumper was the old type with the larger indicators, going to try and get the ECU number off it shortly and see, it does have an ODBII port on it just below the steering column as well!
talk about hybrid!! Also has an after market fog lamp

MANUFACTURER SUBARU & FUJI
VEHICLE TYPE PASSENGER CAR
MODEL IMPREZA
BODY STYLE SALOON
ENGINE 2.0 4WD (FOR: IMPREZA)

hpi check was clear twice (once by aa and by the dealer). can have a different plate then the my as it was imported and the plate just states the year of registration.
Tony, where do you get my99? codes show my98 the bumper was the older type and it had a low level spoiler when I bought it.
Further info :
ECU has ther following on its top :

Neil - it could be an Australian import. They had a similar spec to Europe (208bhp) but called their Impreza Turbo a WRX. There were several differences, off the top of my head I can remember the lack of headlamp washer squirters on the front bumper and the other being the lack of a bright button on the centre console to reduce the brightness of the digital clock.
Check the VIN. If it starts with JF2GC8 then it is very likely that the car originated from Australia. Normally it should be JF1GC8 where the 1 designates passenger vehicle, but in Australia 1=FWD and 2-AWD.

Cant see how a my98 can be w reg. Cars cant be registered with plates which make them look newer than they are.
In any case, the situation regarding imports is a greyer area. When cars that have been used in another country prior to being imported here are registered, IIRC the form asks for the "date of first use". If the importer has been a bit creative about this you can end up buying a car with a newer plate than it really should be on.
